Shiftnation's 58g Build

After about a two year hiatus from having and actual display tank I'm finally ready to set up my system. Thanks to copious prodding from Rich (MADtanks) I'm starting a build thread.

I have been collecting the bits and pieces to this system for about the same length of time. The tank is a Oceanic 58 gallon with a center overflow. The stand is a second hand pass along which some of you might remember as Jas's stand from his old 75 gallon setup way back when. Here it is.

This pic is without the hood and there will be small boxed in pillars on the left and right at the back of the tank, continuing up to the height of the hood to run cables and clean up the look a bit. I wanted an over sized stand for some elbow room down below and have a room around the tank to put down food, frags, beer ... etc. There will also be matching wood trim around the bottom of the tank to hide its plastic trim.
I gave the stand a good sanding trying not to burn through the oak veneer. Then painted it black to match the rest of the living room. I initially wanted to go with a dark stain but due to Jas's meticulous staining even a good sanding wouldn't allow the stain to dry dark enough for my liking so I just decided on black.

Next step on my list is what I've been wanting to try since I first saw it in sidewinder and tiggy's threads a couple years ago...

Both of these pics are pre-epoxy and sand coat. I have a little foam left to trim off the back still. Im hoping to finish that and epoxy it tonight and get it in tank and plumbed enough by Sunday to run the system with fresh water for about a week. Then drain and fill with saltwater and start the waiting game.

Well enough typing for now. I will post some more stuff about my plans for the system throughout the weekend.

Thanks, I'm super happy with the way it came out. I'm very anxious to see it with sand on it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Well after running around all day yesterday, then carnival for the kid last night and meeting naso to pickup that brain he was selling, which was a steal thanks buddy, I had no energy to jump into the epoxying. I'm gonna try to do it today, as its only 20min cure. Should be able to get it in tomorrow. I can also do 90% of the plumbing tonight without it anyway.

I finished the trim and test fit the background and it fits good. I will be siliconing it to the back of the tank.

I also tested out the epoxy and sand on about a 1/4 of the background and I really like the results. Lets just hope it holds up to the saltwater and lights.

It does kind of look like a face That's for the lower and middle section of the overflow to pull in water. After sand and the rest of the aquascape that open spot will be much less noticeable.
I am using z-poxy finishing resin by Pacer. I will post a pic of the box tonight.

I'm finished with the front of the background minus a couple small cosmetic touch-ups. I ran short on epoxy for about 1 square foot on the back, so I need to drop another $20 tomorrow and finish it out. I will also start my plumbing tomorrow. Here's a pic of the background.
