~ best aquascaping designs ~

I'm sure this has come up before, just re-did some of my rockwork and thought it might be intersting to see what others have done with their reefs.

So a little contest: Lets see your most intresting/beautifually laid out tanks!

sdr209: not sure if i'm ready for this competition either lol.

no really, i'm very happy with my tank, but i'm never completely satisfied with the rock layout. i think i just have too much rock for my 75, guess i'll just have to get an in-wall

you can check my web page to see my tank, but those pics are really old, dosn't look anything like that anymore.. i apologize. i will have to beg my friend to borrow his digi-cam so i can get some pics for this post. its only fair seeing how i started this.

i got the idea to start this thread after seeing this tank:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=276939

i'm always like to see the diffrent ways people lay out their tanks

I dont know if i would consider it the best aquascape, but it works for me

This is my 75 gallon, I did mine with enough room on the right side for a clam island.

They all look awesome. I especially like Beverly's 72g Softie tank. Thanks for the inspiration.

Beverly, i noticed that you have 2 skunk clowns AND a ocellaris/percula(can't tell). How do they get along in there. I've read that the skunks are pretty peaceful, but that peaceful?

Well, here is mine. It's nothing special but it's much better than what I've had in the past. I just transfered everything over to this tank about 4 weeks ago. This picture was taken at about the three week point. It will take some time but I'm hoping that it turns out they way I have it in my head.

BTW, I'm really wishing that I had bought the 75 instead of the 55. There just isn't enough depth to make it look the way I wanted.

The tank has about 70 pounds or so of live rock and about 20 - 30 pounds base rock. There are all kinds of little tunnels for the little guys that call the tank there home. Anyway, what ya think?

jimsta,

Yup, a pair of occellaris and a pair of skunks. Everybody who sees pics of that tank always ask about those two pair of clowns

I attribute success with keeping the two pair to introducing them to the tank at or near the same time. The ocellaris pair have been using the pectinia sp. as their "anemone" for the past couple of months (tank is 8 mos. old), and are the bosses of the two pair. The skunks just hang around the ocellaris all day, often only 6" away. The ocellaris pair don't mind the skunks very much at all, but do protect the pectinia from them, though not very aggressively.

The worst aggression I observed was after one of the original skunks died when we replaced it. The poor little new skunk just wanted to be buddies with the other skunk, but the original skunk was not at all interested for a couple of weeks. No fins were nipped, but I sure felt bad for the new skunk

LowCel, how much rock do you have in there? I've always liked the lots of rock look, which is what I was going for.

Here's my month old 75g with 95lbs of LR. The color is a bit washed out (I'm still experimenting with the camera), but there's lots of purple, real nice.

Looks good guitarfish. I have approximately 85 - 100 pounds total. I'm not sure of the exact amount. There is still some room behind the rock for some swimming. There are also tons of little tunnels that the clowns and even the tang can go thru. I tried to leave a little room up at the top so that I can have room for corals up there.

It could change several times still. Nothing is ever permanent when it comes to my tanks.

Oh yeah, the tank is actually very colorful, I'm just a terrible photographer.

It looks real good LowCel. I've already thought about moving stuff around, but decided to keep my hands outta there and let things settle in. I've got a blue tang in QT right now, and in about 3 weeks will be bringing him in, so I'm just waiting on that for now.

I love these aquascaping threads! So many great ideas. Every time I see one, I rearrange my tank. LOL

Here is my 75G (only 2 1/2 months old so cut me some slack .. although everything is transplanted from my 3-yr old 15G nano).

Full tank shot:

Left side (the right-side is barren because I still need to hook up the MH for that side). And, yes, I have a flatworm infestation #%*^ :

Reef Lite, that's really nice aquascaping on the left side. Very cool. Don't touch it.

I would however play with the right side a little more. If it was me I would stack the rock on the right side VERY low, maybe just one piece of rock. Don't touch the left side though! lol, left side is perfect.

I kinda like having the one side darker. You might be able to throw in some variety by throwing lower light corals over there.
