Angry Fighting this.....

Where to start? I have been fighting this cyano for sometime now with no positive results. My params are as follows with API test kit. Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrate about 2ppm, Nitrite 0ppm, pH 8 - 8.2 I am running a berlin skimmer that I clean out every 3 days. For flow I have 2 Seio 1100s and 2 Koralia 3s. I am running new metal halide bulbs about 7 hours a day. Does anyone have any other ideas?

What type of top off water are you using? Maybe the water has phosphate in it. Possibly time to change media in your RO/DI unit? Maybe aquatics store media is old where you get your water. How much are you feeding? Feed invertebrate foods etc? I had some cyano after I added my 250W 10ks took several months for it to start going away, but I don't feel it was due to the new bulbs. I believe mine was due to media needing changedin the RO/DI unit. Just a thought.

raising ph to 8.3 to 8.4 can help with kalk, increase protein skimming, increase flow, and if the sand is the nutrient sink,it is best to remove it slowly with weekly 25 percent water changes.

Just changed all the media in my RO unit, bulbs are only about 4 months old. Phosphate tests also show 0. Do not feed any invert food and only feed fish every other day.

That is because all your phosphate is being used by the cyano
& looks like hair algae.Have you tryed a Phosphate Reactor ?
try turning lights out for a day or 2.

I tried lights out for 2 days. Did nothing for the cyano. I may have to break down and get a phosban reactor.

The TLF phosban reactor is cheap and works wonders. I run mine with rowaphos. I did have a particularly nast outbreak once where I broke down and used the red slime remover from Ultralife. It worked wonders but is really only a band aid fix. I did that and then added the reactor and all has been well.

have you tried moving your powerheads lower and pointing upward angle when you run DSB you need lots of flow, keep the particals suspended in the water you don't want any settling to occur. I'd also siphon all that out and then change flow directions. I also use a phosphate rector and grow macro algae in my fuge to lower phosphates. Do you have a TDS meter to make sure your RO is clean?Have you tested the RO for phosphate?Have you tested you salt mix for phos or changed your salt mix to different brand?
