Hammer Coral Issues

Hey, I am new to the forum but I have had this tank up for almost 18 months. Monday I never had a chance to look at the tank but then yesterday I noticed my hammer got angry at me. See pic. This morning I took a look and it got worse! About lunch time my fiance sent me a photo and it still has polyps on the heads and they kinda opened up but not much.
Temp 74
Salinity 1.025
No ammonia
No nitrites
No nitrates
pH 8.1
dkh 7

Hmm. Did you do something new recently? Like adding new livestock, start dosing something or others.

About 2 weeks ago I has some cyano and dosed chemiclean. I also stopped dosing read sea reef nutrition to cut down on nutrients for the cyano. Did the 15% water change. I also stopped vodka dosing at that time. And a week ago I changed the chemipure blue. I also did a 10%wc then. That's all I have done recently.

I knows different people have different opinion, I suspect that chemiclean might irritate the hammer. If I were you, I change 50% water change. If it does not become better, I’ll do another 50% water change.
Some people do not like large water change, but I believe it is the best way to deal with unknown issue.

I had used chemiclean before without issue. I am planning a large water change as well as maybe an iodine dip. Does it look like the Coral is dying or is it just really mad

sounds like you did a lot 2 weeks ago and any of those changes could have made it mad, it does look like it will come back

Well that is good news at least. I just freaked out. Should I start dosing back in the Coral nutrition?

To me it looks dying. From my experience, once hammer gets damaged, it will take long time to recover.

I certainly agree. For a long time the polyps wouldn't extend much with this guy but they finally started to open up after feeding them twice weekly( half the amount each time) and the reef nutrition
