Broke the elbow on my collection cup of my Super Marin 250

Hi,
Any chance this is a replaceable part?
It looks like part of the elbow is still in side.
Thanks, Pete

Any chance you can post a picture of the broken part as well as what remains on the collection cup?

My guess is that you need this item below that is sold as an assembly.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for getting back to me. I asked you for help once on a lighting subject.
We had both owned the same crummy lights from a company that is now out of business.
Hope the photos help and hope I can replace the broken parts.

You broke the stub off that is welded into the PVC on the cup. That black elbow is a Metric John Guest fitting. What I would do is get a thick paperclip and bend the tip so it’s hooked shaped. Push the hook into the John Guest Fitting on the side that the broken stub is still in. Push it past the end of the broken tube and hook the tube. Push the collar on the John Guest fitting in while pulling out of the paper clip and you should be able to pull the broken tube out. Then clean the end of the broken tube with some rubbing alcohol. Do the same on the broken end on the bottom of the collection cup being careful not to get it on the acrylic. Glue the stub back in place using some Ca and then add a thin layer of epoxy into the depression in the bottom of the collection cup being careful not to get it up onto the tube. The idea of the epoxy is to fill the depression up high enough that it covers where the crack was. Let the epoxy set and dry and then slip the John Guest fitting back over the stub.

If you were to buy a new tube, you would need to drill out the original stub perfectly and then use PVC cement to glue the new piece in place. That is always an option if the suggestion above doesn’t work.

Regarding the lights, those were the old Reef Tech’s.. I remember those lights well. LOL

Thanks Scott!!
I had to read it a few time s but I guess we will see how good my skills are.
You are always a great and knowledgeable person to compliment this exciting hobby.
I also loved watching all you videos on and about your tank from earlier on.
This is the best most consistent skimmer I have owned . Like you I have been at this a long time.
Best Regards, Pete

Very glad to help and appreciate the kind words. Let me know how it goes. It should be a pretty simple fix.

Thanks again Scott !!!
All doe looks good.
The only things I did differently was soak the elbow in hot water for a few minutes
And I used a screw that was very flat so I was able to grab the edge of the nipple and yank it out with a pair of vice grips so I had something big to take hold of.

Since it’s PVC, you might try redoing it with PVC glue. That way, it forms a weld with the PVC stub and PVC base of the collection cup. As for the part, I don’t think we have that part in the US which is why it won’t register in your cart. You’re actually the first who requested that in the US since I came aboard a few years ago.

It can be ordered directly from the factory website in Germany which would be the quickest means of getting it.
