Do it yourself sump

Does anyone know of a vendor that sells ready made cut pieces of glass to build a sump/fuge with? I want some basic rectangles as well as some drill pieces for bulkheads on the supply and return.

It's a bit hard to find a company that will sell you a sump in pieces. You can buy an acrylic or glass sump from www.glasscages.com that can be drilled to your specifications. If you really want to make your own then you can always have glass cut to size at a local glass shop and then drill your own holes. You can buy drill bits for glass on www.glass-holes.com or even ebay. Good luck with your project and happy reefing!

I have some diamond hole cutters. It cut the holes, but the glass flaked off on the opposite side. Is there a way to keep the glass from flaking? I suppose it would covered by the bulkhead anyway.

Was the glass supported on the opposite side? You can try tape or what I did, clamped a piece of wood to the inside of the tank prior to drilling. If the glass is unassembled then it would be easier to back it up prior to drilling. Also, slow and steady with the drilling and keep it lubricated with water.

Used the water tip, but did not have a clamp that large at the time. With a small piece, should be able to clamp, thanks for the tip.

P.S. There is no such thing as too many clamps!
