Where did you get the screen top for the top of the tank? Currently using the glass top but its pretty flimsy. Also are you using both 3/4" sections in the overflow for returns or one for an emergency overflow. I am currently using one as an emergency. Tank survived the 48 hour leak test so now will be draining mine and getting it ready for sand, etc... Also have the same sump and skimmer as you.

I bought the screen kit from Bulk Reef Supply. I could have probably sourced all the components elsewhere, but you can't beat the ease of having everything delivered to your door in one package. They also include enough screen for 2 tries, in case you f**k up the first time like I did.

I used the center for drain and the two outside ones for discharge. The drain is so immense that I don't see it ever getting clogged by anything. The eshopps R100 sump has a separate pump compartment. If my drain clogged, the pump would run dry in a matter of seconds. There would be no way to overflow the tank in my situation and you have the same failsafe going on.

Do you have a build thread going?

So on to updates. Picked up a small yellow tang which I love. Brings back memories of a yellow tang I had in the early 1990's. Back then I fed him romaine lettuce because that was the 'thing'. Ofcourse that would be silly and probably cruelty nowadays. So dried seaweed, pellets and algae in the tank has been his diet.

Also moved my massive clump of Xenia to the top shelf.. Next step is out of my tank. My large zoa colony looked distressed this week, but is coming back. I think I had the MP10 blowing too hard and my clown pretending that it was her anemone probably didn't help. The clown has moved onto frogspawn and I turned the MP10 down a few notches.

And last night after lights out, I dumped a little bit of Reef Frenzy in my fuge to see if the pods would like it:

Couple of photos using my camcorder.
One of my mushrooms had a baby!

This is a Duncan I've had for about a week or so.

And the bigger of my clowns now has a new home

Your tank looks great! What are the dimensions?

I'm restoring an Oceanic 58 galllon--it looks very similar. Your tank looks wider, which would be nice. Are you happy with the build quality overall?

Thanks, I am very happy with the DSA tank. I think it's roughly 36" long, 20/21" wide/deep. You should paint the faux woodgrain trim black IMHO

So last weekend, I changed 14 gallons with water from my LFS. I can't remember what mix they are using. No I'll effects, but this week I changed 10 gallons with coral pro and I must say everything looks happier today. I veered off the path, but I'm back to 'my' salt.
These tangs are absolutely voracious eaters. They go insane for the pellet food. I figured they were done eating with their bulged bellies, but I was wrong. Every couple of days I put in a piece of Julian's Sea Veggies for my lawnmower Blenny as a supplement, but both tangs went nuts on it..after already eating

Do you have the screen top secured or is it just laying on the top? If its secured what did you use to do so. Thanks.

Doc, I built it so it sits within the inside perimeter of the glass. It's supported on the left side by my TLF veggie clip magnet and on the right side by the TLF feeding ring magnet. If you look closely at the latest photo I uploaded, you can see the TLF products I'm speaking of. On the back, it just sits on top of the overflow.

Sorry to be a pest but the next time you take a picture can you take one from the top so I can see what you did? You can pm it to me if you don't want to post it here. No hurry my tank is getting water tomorrow and it will be awhile before I need to cover the tank.

Great blog, and a very clever approach to staging / aqua-scaping with the PVC.
Everything within your tank looks very happy.
I will be following your updates.

Today's update. Decided to remove my filter sock. Each time I go to clean it, I find 20+ adult pods in there so I'll just let them through. If I see any I'll effects, I'll put the sock back in. Also here is a photo of my little acro colony in a night time shot that shows polyp extension.

DSA NEO 65 PRO - build by sixpackgarage

Another equipment update. Picked up a Phosban reactor. I didn't want to add any more pumps, so I plumbed it into the discharge circuit. I'll add the media in the next few days.

Also added one of the new PMK (PAR) modules. Neat toy. I put it in my fuge for testing

And just for fun, tried it a couple of inches under one of my tank lights at 41%

DSA NEO 65 PRO - build by sixpackgarage

Ok so here's a small update. All is healthy except my GSP colony closed up for 2 days.. Only to open up again today and is growing as well. I picked up a blueish mushroom colony and also an arc-eyed hawkfish. He has a great personality. The PVC is getting more and more coralline growth and is looking better

Also this thing popped up out of the sand in my fuge. I thought it was a mangrove baby, but I guess not

Nothing major. Decided to rearrange the corals a bit. Moved my stylo to the center to reduce shadowing.
