How to get a mimic tang to eat nori?

Hi everyone,

I picked up a mimic tang on sunday from my LFS. He/she is about 3" and bright bright yellow. Before he went into my tank, I had a smallish piece of nori on a clip in the front of the tank. I have changed it everyday so it will be fresh for him, but he isnt interested at all in it. I am feeding green nori. I have tried regular nori and the same nori that was soaked in Garlic extreme. He loves to eat hikari mysis, Hikari spiralina brine shrimp, Hikari regular brine shrimp and nutramar Ova. I know tangs are herbivores and they need their algae, so how can i get him to be interested in eating it? everyday I feed him a good amount of spiralina brine so i can see his stomach bulging out.

Thanks!

Uhhh, I think Tangs are Omnivores which means they eat veggie and meatie foods! Give it some time...the Tang will eventually find it and start eating it. I have an adult Chocolate Tang and he loves Nori Seaweed!!!

depends on the tang blues feed mainly on phytoplankton.
You should try spiralina flakes.

I feed my tangs dainichi pellets, and a mixture of frozen foods. I didn't feed my chocolate mimic tang nori for over a year perhaps and he looks fine. He just started eating it when I added a new fish that prefers the nori.
