I just picked up some cuc members and I was told that i got nerite and cerith snails. The nerite look right but after I got them home the cerith snails looked more like really big nassarius snails or something. Can someone help me id?

They are about 1.5-2 inches too I'm not sure that nassarius can get that large. I have no idea which one they are haha

Tonga nass. Look more cream colored and have a glossy shell. These look similar to the nass. snails sold from florida or the Atlantic

Well at least my sand bed will get some movement now. My system is very new, I really needed the snails for a diatom bloom. Should I do supplemental feeding for the nass snails until the tank matures?
Also how can I tell if the nerites I got were from Florida?

From the pics and what you described, I'm pretty sure they are Netted Dog Whelks (Nassarius Reticulatus).

Thanks for the reply it definitely looks a lot like that. Are these beneficial in a reef tank or should I remove them? I didn't find much info on these guys online

No problem.

You're right, there isn't much info about them online. From what I've found so far they are scavengers and detritus eaters. I've had smaller versions if these in the past and never had a problem. The behaved exactly like my Tongan Nassarius. Not sure if their behavior or eating habits change when they get large, so it may be with keeping an eye on them for awhile to be sure.

I've never had an issue with mine leaving the tank. They're always burrowed in the subsrate. All you see are their syphons sticking up in the substrate. Except when food is dropped into the tank. They get go wild.

How deep is you substrate?
