calcium reactor and nitrate

Can a calcium reactor be a source of nitrate?

It'd be hard for the reactor to produce nitrate. I think the pH is too low to allow much to happen in terms of bacterial growth, and nitrate can't bind to calcium carbonate the way that phosphate can.
