Coming Soon - Reeflux 20K

Due to popular demand CoralVue is finally coming out with a 20k REEFLUX bulb. This bulb will join the ranks of great Reeflux bulbs like the 10k and very popular 12k. Mike and I will be trying out the new 20K Reeflux in both 250w and 400w. Once we receive the bulbs from CV and burn in we will post some pick here along with our opinions on these new 20k bulbs.

Till then here is some specs provided by CoralVue.

bah,

you need to let someone who has run Radiums and Helios give their analysis.

I received the NEW Reeflux 20k 250w bulb last night. I fired it up this morning outside of my normal photo period. I am quite impressed at this point, a 20k bulb that doesn't make the corals look hazy and the tank look dim. These new Reeflux 20k seem to really pack a punch. At first glance it looks like a Reeflux 12k with actinic supplementation. I will see how it burns in. I am going to try to get a par reading when it burns in for those interested in its specs.

First look at the Reeflux 20k

Tank with the Reeflux 20k 250w powered by CoralVue electronic ballast. (Approximately 20min. after first being fired)

JR,
An idea when these are going to be available? I would be very interest in trying these out as I dont want to put actinic supplementation on my tank. I currently run the 250 12k's on IC but want a little more blue. Thanks!

Last I heard they were going to be available at the end of the month. If not then I would assume they will be available early January.

Wonder how these will look on my HQI ballasts. The 12Ks are about as white as any bulb-ballast combo I've ever seen. If the 20Ks would give what my current setup with VHO actinics give combined, I could save the money on the VHO use, which would be nice.

I will get more pics this weekend. Remember that the bulb is not burned in yet. I did notice a pretty huge difference in brightness and color between my 7 month old Reeflux 12ks and the new Reeflux 20k. The 20k was very bright and the colors sure did pop. I will place in new 12ks this weekend and see if I still notice a difference in brightness.

Your aquarium is just stunning JR.

How did you cement all those SPS in such a natural looking way?
I tried to cement some corals last night with Aquamend and it was a nighrmare

Also please let me know how long do you keep your MH on and what do you do for algae control as you seem to have NONE.

Thanks!

Thanks for the compliments.
I start out with frags and glue them with cyanoacrylate gel. Works great, easy and really holds. It also doesn't make you skimmer go nuts.

Here is a link of what I use to glue my frags:
http://www.reefspecialty.com/Mainten...duct_info.html

I run my light for 7-8 hours depending on the time of the year. Tangs and a large skimmer is my algae control. Don't be fooled though I do get spots here and there every now and then. It is just the life of a reef tank.

Do you glue them inside your tank beacuse thats the only way I can glue mine - there is NO way I can get my rockwork out for gluing...

Do you recommend this product for gluing inside my tank?

Yes, you can glue it underwater. I mount all my frags underwater. The gel is really thick and doesn't float away. It gets activated by water so you do have a short span of time to get it where you want and mount it.

12k Reeflux

20k Reeflux

If this is the true colors with the bulbs, then the 12k looks much better IMO.

I really had a tough time taking top down shots because of the brightness of the bulb and my camera lens. The 20k has the same crispness and brightness (possibly even brighter than the 12ks)as the 12k just bluer.

FWIW the tank is lit with all new bulbs. The two side lights are brand new Reeflux 12ks and the center is the Reeflux 20. Right now the tank is shown in an un-normal state. All bulbs need to burn in as the 12k burn in whiter than they appear now.
