I suppose an infinite amount of calcium could crystalize on the sand and just keep building up as new aragonite if saturation levels in the water were high enough. Coral sand itself is mostly calcium carbonate. Is there another question? Not sure what you asked is what you want to know?

In addition to what Tom has stated there are two types of calcium carbonate deposition on rock and sand. Abiotic which is a chemical process & biotic where bacteria & other micro-organisms are able to produce the calcium carbonate on rock and sand.
