The toxins from Zoas can be pretty nasty, one instance I was rearranging my rockwork and got several small cuts on my fingers and hands in a tank with a lot of zoa's. After working in it for several hours I got pins and needles in that hand and halfway up the arm that did not subside for 3 days. Much more carefull about working in the tank with open cuts now. :-)

When in doubt use as hot as you can stand without burning flesh water. Almost all neuro toxins in the ocean begin breaking down at 150-160F. To late now probably. Meat tenderizer poltice also works, but not as fast.

Phulease lol. My entire colony of fire coral fell on my arm when I was cleaning. This was in my 100g. It was about a 8in x 6in colony. Felt sick for about 2 days with a fever. The burns lasted a month. Note to self: No fire coral. It is pretty thou
I have gotten bristle worm hairs in my hand too many times to count. You can usually hold your finger up to the light and see the shiny sliver, and using tweezers pull it out. Should just feel like fiberglass. If you can get your hands dry a peice of silver masking tape stuff works too, but kinda hurts cause you have to push down on where the bristle worm hairs are. I remeber when I worked at AT Devon was telling me about some infection you can get from our systems... Fish tank granuloma. LOL not to freak anyone out, its just interesting and good to know. http://www.aquatouch.com/Granuloma.htm |

So I remembered last night on the way home from work that I had also shocked one of my fingers 2 or 3 days ago. One of my Tek ballasts has a broken piece of plastic that keeps one of the wires from locking in place so I always have to rig it back into place every time that I close the canopy. That might explain the numbness and bruising without any rash. But I've shocked myself before, at least a couple of other times with this wire, and this time didn't seem like much. So I don't know exactly what caused it. I think I'll be a little more careful with zoas in the future and try to not hold a big colony of them spinning it over and over again in my hands while trying to break off a skeleton chunk as a frag.
