Wow guys, these are phenomenal - Jaybird and Misled, do you strictly shoot hand held, or do you use a tripod at times as well?

Thank you. I mostly use a tripod with macro shots because my nikkor 105 is the older model without VR.
PS The second shot (1st dragon pic) was shot at ISO 2000 with my D7000 (No P.P.). Thats a pretty clean image considering! |

Thanks also, but it's rare for me to even have a tripod on a hike. To make matters worse for me, I shoot with a D200 which has an older CCD sensor. It's very noisy as you raise the ISO. I tend to leave mine locked on 100. One thing about shooting bugs though is I'm out at the brightest time of the day. I also use a flash if I need to. Normally I also use either an older Nikon 105 AF or a Sigma 50 macro. I don't like taking my good stuff on hikes and the old AF is just as sharp as the AF-S.

I actually love to hike with my tripod. Just walk with it up over my shoulder. The tripod gives me good versitility. It has a quick release mount so with the flick of my thumb its free and Im handheld in 1/2 second. |

Nice pics everyone! I rarely carry my macro, so you'll have to imagine how nice the bee looks...
