maxi-jet 900 algae free mod vs koralia nano pump vs tunze nanostream!!!

tsup fellow reefers, does anyone know much about the koralia nano powerhead, tunze nanostream, and the maxijet 900 algae free mod? i hav a 30 gallon long nano and am gonna put a wave system in it with 2 powerheads but am unsure about pump selection. i know that the tunze can be modded to get higher flow, how much is the maxijet 900 with mod? actually 1600 gph??? and which koralia would be good for a 30 inch tank? the nano is 240 gph but k-1 is 400. i am a noob still(and will be 4 quite some time ) so any comments are appreciated. oh and i plan on keeping sps so higher flow is needed i guess

i basically need a pump that
a) is small
b)produces a strong wide flow with some undertow
c)is able to be used on a wave machine

what do you guys think i should use???

oh and this is on a 2 channel jbj wavemaker

thanks abunch!

2 x Koralia 1 will be good for a mixed reef with sand bed. I've heard that moded Tunze 6025 doesn't work good with wave maker. I don't like the look of MJ900 with mod in the tank.

I don't have my koralia 1 on a wave maker or timer but have never had a problem with it restarting after power outages or from being unplugged. My Koralia 4 almost always has to be messed with to get to restart after it's powered off.

wavemaker only work on koralia and mj,tunze nano 6055 is the only one can work with wavemaker and it is too much power for your tank.I would go with 2-K1 in your tank.

I have a algea free mj mod on my 48x12x12 frag tank. Have one on a 600 and one on a 900. puts out serious flow.

not sure if you have a 30g or 30" tank anyway the K1 and nano koralia are a waste of money for anything but a 10G ish size aquarium. Neither moves much water. you would want no less than a pair of 2's. I have the sureflow upgrade with maxijet 400 (1400gph) and you would probably think its too much if you plan on keeping sand and anything besides SPS. Works fine for me in the 36" long 30g with sand and corals that dont demand high flow(have a koralia 1 as well plus a 600gph return pump adding a little more) but everybody else seems to think its too much on paper and their fish cant swim in it ect.

i know its alot for a small tank but a vortec would be nice ( You get your waves and can turn it town ) Almost convinced i need one..

I'm pretty sure you can run the maxi jets off your wave maker just fine.

the vortech MP20 would be an even better option (although its not quite out yet). Its made for tanks 20-70g and flows from 500-2000gph, can be upgraded to the MP40 and has all the wave mods of the larger current vortech. best of all its $300 (well only the price of the MP40 makes one say that. still too much).

My sure flow maxijet never spins backwards (there's a stop) BUT it wont restart right, it clatters (running into the reverse stop) and usually needs me to rotate the shroud until it begins spinning properly. Definately couldn't use it on a wavemaker. All the combos (maxijet sizes and propeller sizes) of the sureflow kit act different so it just depends. for example the 1600gph propeller on the maxijet 1200 is noisy and intolerable (the 2100gph propeller works fine) while the 1600 propeller on 400-900 is quiet.

I would not recommend the MJ on a wave maker, (chatter and sometimes dont start without a nudge)

Other than that, since I already had the maxi-jets (two 900s and a 1200) I have been happy with them. I think that the mj mods worksbest on the 900 and smaller models. It is a good product but yes it lacks that "factory polish" from a prefab model, but it can push alot of water cheaply and without burning up the pump. Honestly, I would purchase a tunze if I could but I just dont have quite enough money... and the mjs are working just fine

vortech is out of the question cause i am on a budget they are completely ill pumps still!!! the price is sooo unneccessary tho. when the dust settles are there any wide flow propeller pumps that can be used with a timer that wont cost me a pound of flesh(i cant spend half a grand on a 30 gal wave system)?

you just need a different controler, the seio controler would work on modded maxi's and karalia's. it drop power but not competly off so they never have to start backwords.

I've been happy with my seio. I have the 620 and it doesn't seem to be too fast though.

2 K2's at the very least...

i have a K1 and a K2 in my 20 gallon 24" long tank and i am looking for a 6055 now...there is just not enough flow for me or my SPS...

also the 6055 would do it all for you...the controller alone will allow you to create a wave pattern if you can get the timing right..

as far as i know none of the mentioned PH with the exception of the 6055 will work continuously on a wave maker/timer...any of the prop driven PH will always have the potential to spin backwards, the chattering is terrible for the props, smashing and nicking them which drastically reduces their effectiveness..

get the maxi jets with the mods but get 1200's its better to have more power for down the road, instead of upgrading later, and if you want my honest opinion on mod kits for mj's get a SEAFLOW they are $27 and they put out serrious flow they blow Korallia 4's away, and are better than Algea free, and the eco-mods, if you are using a wavemaker you can turn the 1200's down and if you get a bigger tank or decide to do SPS or your corals get bigger you will have enough flow
