Conjoined sh fry

My sh had another batch of fry a few days ago. This batch held an extra goodie - a pair of conjoined fry - they are attached at the chest - 2 head and 2 tails.

Unfort. I do not expect this fry to survive as it will not settle down to hitch or feed - both heads are determined to move in a different direction. But this will allow my husband to preserve them and get some better photos.

For now, here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday.

That does tend to happen now and again. They usually don't make it much past 5 or 6 days.

Thanks for the pics though.

This does happen occasionally. I had one that was born with two heads and one body and a friend also had one born the same.

I chose to euthanize mine as the little one would have never had the quality of life that it needed if it survived at all.

Yes, we euthanized it - my husband took it to school to preserve it as we often raise fry in his classroom.

I have gotten several responses from other postings re: trying to raise it.

However having 2 heads and 2 complete bodies means there was a constant struggle to "unhitch" and the fry was not able to hunt down food.

I did think that there might be a chance of survival if there had been only 1 body - one body means there might not be the constant struggle over "this way - that way". When 2 headed animals (turtles, snakes, etc) are found in the wild it is usually an animal that has one body and not much formed of the 2nd body.
