sirichok,
I see your dilemma, I will admit the temptation if money and space and electrical is no object to go venturi is great. I too love venturi systems. But in terms of space running cost and availability needle wheel is a winner. None the less it goes with out saying MRC and R2K can help with both systems. If you want a proven custom skimmer with either method take a look at Bill Wanns Custom skimmers. He has a 20,000 gallon (75,000 liter) aquarium in his house. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vto...8PQr8d4zXWndTo http://www.aquariumeng.com/ I am a big fan of Royal, but I think their regular production models maxs out at 20,000 liter rating. http://royalexclusiv.net/Skimmers/Sk...ied::1338.html If you can get Reef Octopus they have a large Commercial selection. http://www.coralvue.com/q8-commercial-foam-fractionator Look forward to seeing what you decide on. I am sure you know this but if you decide on venturi skimmer please make sure to get the best pumps possible :-)

you will find arguments for both, but if you look at the data there is very little difference in performance for that matter, there is very little difference in performance of all skimmers, regardless of price personally I like to have several skimmers running, I have four on my 1400g system: 2 downdraft Becket injectors skimmers Barr 5220's, an RK2 25PE and a BK 500. All produce lots of skimmate. Having several running at the same time increases the probability than one of them will be tuned properly. I do not believe you can over skim, at least that has been my experience. Skimmers are not very efficient at removing waste, about 20-25% efficiency, much lower than carbon for example.

I have been looking at several articles on Carlson surge device especially on pros and cons . Anyone with the experience on running a Carlson surge device ? Is it worth it for that extra surge ?

Contact Geo at geosreef for a custom skimmer, I have seen some of his on large tanks.
But currently I use a BK, but not sure if they make one big enough for your tank. Corey |

Don't know the kW/h price in Thailand. Germany is between 0.25 till 0.30 EUR. Big coral shops change to Royal Exclusive to lower the costs. Think in Thailand this is no argument.
If one is not big enough use two skimmers. Grüße Torben Gesendet mit Tapatalk |

2 skimmers may not be a bad idea for redundancy. I'd imagine by the time you're up and running there will be a significant investment in live stock etc, so you really don't want a single point of failure. Especially if you're not able to just pop to the shop and buy another.

I just want to let you know I've not got any experience with big aquaria let alone one this huge but I do work in an industry where redundancy is king. As a single point of failure could literally be the difference between life and death.
So I do assume that getting a skimmer or 2 for a tank this large is not a matter of just popping down to your local fish store.
