Reef Octopus Regal 200 SSS FS cable question (and problem)

Hi all,

I have a relatively new Regal 200 SSS. It has a float sensor attached to the lid of the collection cup which connects to the VarioS 4-S controller via a 2-wire connection. I love this feature, as it prevents skimmer overflow which seems inevitable once in a while.

Like all of you, I remove the collection cup and lid and take it to the sink once in a while to clean it. I like to take the whole assembly, as opposed to breaking it apart in front of the tank, over to the sink to avoid making a mess on the floor. So, I have been disconnecting the cable that connects the float sensor to the controller and taking the whole thing over to the sink as one piece with the lid attached to the collector cup. It's a tricky electrical connection to make, by the way, it's easy to try to insert it 180 degrees off and sometimes you feel like you need a third hand.

I am finding that the male pins on the controller are not durable and clearly not designed to undergo many insertions. A few more and I fear they will break. In my opinion, this is an oversight of the design, the connection should be more robust and easy to accomplish.

I sent a support request about this and their recommendation is to remove the float sensor from the lid. I don't like this for a few reasons: 1: I don't like to take apart the skimmer parts at the tank, I'd rather make a mess at the sink. 2: I want to clean the float sensor too. I'd much rather have a robust electrical connection instead of having to remove the float sensor.

Does anyone know the cable connection type that's used for the FS (float sensor) on a VarioS 4-S controller? If I can find that out, I can make a pigtail with a more robust and easier to disconnect/connect connection between the controller and the FS itself.

I would get a boat trailer electrical plug and splice it in near the collection cup to make unplugging fast and somewhat water tight.

Hi all,

I think some of these are massive 50A connectors, we're talking about a lot less power needed and something lot less bulky. For example, have a look at the power connector into the VarioS controller, it's far more robust, easy to connect/disconnect.

I first need to understand the existing connector type unless I want to cut and splice (which I'd prefer not to do).
thanks.
