Salt

Before my post gets deleted please experts reply.
1-Asmall question can salt become solid state if there is a big electric break down like for about 2 hours or so? or tank dosent have good water circulation?
2- how much salt should be added ( Kg) in 3X2.5X1.5 Feet tank?
3- my tank has been cycling since last three weeks and i see 1-2 Babby snails, it means it finished it cycling?
Thank you in advance for your Help.
Love
Rafaqat

1. I'm not sure what you mean by 'solid state'. Please explain.
2. Each salt mix is different. Please follow the specific instructions that come with your salt. Instant Ocean salt is approx 1/2 cup/gallon of water, depending on the desired salinity (US measurement).
3. No. Cycling is complete when your tests for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are zero.

Thank you for the quick reply.. i mean i am adding salt like mixing tank water with litile bit salt shake it very well unitil salt is invisible the add that water to tank again.
salt comes in solid state if we mix it with water it makes salt solution. if i put that solution in the water of tank can it become solid again if there is not much water movement in water.... i hope i can make you understand... if not can i add you on my MSN or send you private message?

no once the salt dissolves in you tank it will not resolidify in your tank. you don;t have to worrry about that at all.
how are you measuring the salinity when you are adding salt?

Ok... after the salt has been disolved into fresh water it will not become solid again. You can store it for months without problems. What brand salt is this?

The newly mixed saltwater needs to circulate, preferably with a powerhead (pump), for 24 hours. You might be measuring too quickly and getting a faulty reading.

i suggest you use a refractometer, they are much easier to use.

when your water evaporates the salinity level will increase in your tank and you should add freshwater, you salinity should go up not down so i think i could be a problem with you hydrometer. make sure to check a few times, hydrometers can be hard to use propertly. how much does the reading change?

i think it;s a cup per gallon but you will need to measure to make sure.

Typically it's 1/2 cup (US Measure) per gallon of water. I'm working on a conversion for you. The only method to know for sure is to keep testing with your hydrometer. A refractometer will be more accurate, but work with what you have right now.

Yeah, I know. Just keep using the hydrometer and you'll have good results.

it is not exactly half a cup per gallon so you cant just add a certain amount of salt and expect to get an exact number. you don't have exactly 85g of water with the sand, rocks and other things in your tank so it's hard to estimate how much salt you will need

you should be around the right amount but again it's impossible to tell, you have to use your hydrometer

A weight measurement (kg) is not what you are looking for when measuring salinity, Fefe_2. You should slowly keep adding salt until the desired salinity is meet. Use the hydrometer and you won't be guessing. Target 1.026 specific gravity

it means you r 100% sure that once the salt solution is make the salt will never solidify when in the tank.. this is why i am asking because lots of people(LFS) are sugesting that salt is solidifying and it is on the sand and i have to give a good shake to the sand!
