How Fast Can I Lower Salinity?

I didn't realize that it had been so warm in my room during the day and I let my speccific gravity get up to 1.030. How fast can I get it back down to 1.025 without hurting anything. How bad is this salt level for my inverts? My BTA is looking rather unhappy.

If you can get it down by just top off then add half of what you need and wait about an hour then finish up. You should be ok. If you have to remove water then I would do it over a few hours.

Okay. I don't have to take any water out. It was all from evaporation. Thanks!

!.030 is not likely to kill anything but I'd personally try to get it to around 1.028 pretty quickly then go slow to 1.026.

I'd likely just add enough to move the salinity .001 units at a time, perhaps a few hours apart. 1.030 shouldn't cause any problems over the short term (a few weeks, or more). I ran tanks at that level for months without problems, due to a bad salinity device.

Rapid changes in salinity can damage many invertebrates, due to osmotic shock, so I'd use a drip, if possible.
