Another BK Double Cone 130 question

Good day and Merry Christmas everyone!

If you'd be so kind to help me again - seems like every time I clean the collection cup, my BK 130 has to go through a complete break-in period. Sometimes it takes up to a week for it to produce any skimmate and definitely over a week for it to product good quality, foamy skimmate.

Any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you!

When you really give the collection cup and more importantly the neck and deep cleaning, you end up not only removing gunk in neck but more importantly the slime coating that is part of the break in process. If you are really concerned about the neck having to break in again, remove the cup and wipe it off with a paper towel soaked with salt water. The idea in that case is to get all the gunk out but not necessarily to make it spotless. That will go a long way in preventing the neck from having to break in again.

Hope that helps and I hope you have a great holiday!

Thanks for the detailed reply - very helpful. A follow-up note: what about the automated neck cleaners? Wouldn't these do the same thing and restart a break in process?

Neck cleaners don't remove the slime coating. They just remove the gunk on the surface of the neck. In fact, the neck cleaners often have an opposite effect. When the neck cleaner is rotating and the gunk is removed, it can actually increase the foam fractioning. This is because the proteins and organics that are built up on neck are suddenly released into the foam head and upper bubble column where they bind with the bubbles and often make the foam head thicker.

That is awesome news: I noticed you have a German made neck cleaner from Aqua Driver. They don't seem to make a cleaner for my 130...which alternative would you recommend for me?

Thank you so much for all the awesome information!

Good question. The smallest Aquadriver currently available is for the 160 sized skimmers. I am not sure who makes one that will fit the 130. Most of the other ones don't last terribly long but the 130 has a really small diameter neck which makes it pretty tough to get a wiper to fit in there. I pinged AquaDriver to see if a 130mm version one can be made and will let you know what I find out.

Just following up to see if you got any feedback from the Aquadriver folks. Thank you and Happy New Year!

As a matter of fact I did. The smallest they have made is a 150. Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to make one for the 130 due to the motor & wiper design.
