Can the Warner Marine MF Series run with the Big Dogs?

Folks,

Any opinions on if the Warner Marine MF 161, 181 and 201 can perform at the same level as say Bubble King 180? I need a smaller footprint skimmer, and like the looks of the Warner Marine, but don't want to buy another skimmer again! I'm willing to pay the price to do it right the first time, but if I can save money, even better!

Can this $300-400 skimmer run with an equal size skimmer from say Bubble King, RO, Vertex, etc? Those skimmers are twice the price and then some!

I'm willing to pay the price to do it right the first time, but if I can save money, even better!

Would love to get everyones opinion!

Cheers,
L3

for the same money i would recommend a SRO skimmer a sro2000 or xp2000 or if space is a issue a xp2000ss would all be good fits.

The MF201 is a beast and that is what I would choose for your tank. They are dead silent with low wattage pumps. The skimmer is really the goods and I am impressed with the performance.

The sro-3000int has a footprint of 14.5 x 10 and would be ridiculously awesome for the money for a 180. I own the 5000 on a 225 and it is poo foaming awesome.

The MF-201 has a 9" x 9" footprint which will fit in the smallest of sump chambers.

We should ask the OP, what is the space you have available? If he can manage it, I would go with an external pump vs. internal but no idea what he has to work with.

Thanks guys, internal wouold be ideal... I'm leaning toward the Warner Marine skimmer, as I really like the design, and the way the output comes out of the bottom. Now I'm just not sure if the MF-201 would be overkill for my system, and cause issues...

I have the MF 161 and am loving it so far. It is well built, after 1.5 weeks is working nicely, and I have received exceptional support from Warner Marine based in the US.

You cannot overskim an aquarium. A big skimmer gives you more leeway to fead heavily which be be more beneficial to your reef tank than minimizing feeding to prevent pollution. This is my opinion, but if you don'tbeleive my theory, start looking at the best tanks in the world. Most all have skimmers that are rated for much more than the tank they are running on. Not a debate but fact.

Great to know, and thanks... I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on the MF-201!

I see them at Pacific East Aquaculture, with videos and reviews from. Oops, just realized that this IS Dr Mac. Sorry. Looks like a great skimmer and a great price.

The Warner Marine does not use Sicce. It uses Eden. They are another OEM pump manufactuer in Italy that makes many of the pumps for Eheim and the Marineland utility seiries.

Guys,

Is the MF251 (Cone) worth the additional dollars over the 250? I do see the dual pumps on the 251. I know overkill is not a bad thing, but that model is rated 2x over my tank volume. I'm not afraid of spending more, as I want to buy once, and never again!

By the way my two Eden 5000 pumps are only pulling 35 watts total.
