Sounds like a motor problem or a driver problem. I'd give us a call at the number below or send the pump in using this form:

Same thing happened to me. Red/Green blinking. Attempted to have a look at things myself to see if it was an easy fix. Ended up cracking one of the inner discs due to the super strong magnet (the one attached directly to the motor). And to make to complete the comedy of errors, promptly did the exact same thing to one of my others. Thus with one stroke I went down from 3 MP40ws to 1. "the guy" who bought the pumps for me with my initial setup said that he no longer had the receipt but he would take care of it by ordering a new disc........

I was looking to buy a 4th one for my system anyway, so I went out a bought another one from my local store so I would have at least 2 running while I was waiting for the parts to the other 2. After installing and running the brand new one for 10 minutes I got the blinking green/red again! arrrrrg. I checked the dry motor alone to make sure the problem wasn't with the propeller. It wasn't. The motor alone doesn't spin. Well, it starts to spin for a split second when I plug/unplug it, then stops and blinks green/red. Is there any way to fix this myself? or do I have to send my brand new pump which I have owned for less than a day away. All help is greatly appreciated.

In the mean time I bought 2

Just bought MP 40 Vortech ES and literally after a few minutes of it running just fine the propeller stops and starts blinking red/green. I read the full online manual. Every thing looks fine the way it was installed. Every time I re-plug it in, it goes sporadically for a few seconds and then stops. Just paid nearly $500 for this and this is what I get? I'm furious right now after all that money paid.

I sent mine back Monday, they got it Tuesday and FedExed me back a new one today.... They said there was something wrong with the electronics of the dry side pump, and they replaced it. Nothing wrong with the controller..

Called Eco Tech Marine and they're sending me a whole new one. He said the dry side should be shipped to me by this Monday. Great service nonetheless though. Glad it's getting fixed.

Speechless right now. Got my replacement today and the main wire going into the dry side is completely exposed. The wire is ripped or something and you can totally see all the little wires and now it's an electrical hazard. Completely bogus and now I am going to have to send this one back. This is two MP Vortech 40 ES's in a row that are not properly manufactured. This is such BS!

This just happened to me a few minutes ago. Just my luck. These things can be so problematic. I just got a MP10ES as a package deal from a fellow reefer with some other stuff. I swore I'd never go back to Vortech, becuase they are too noisy, but this is a new one for me. Meanwhile, my Tunzes are just churning along controlled by my Profilux.

Contacting customer support. Mine is doing the same thing. For as much money as these cost, this is completely unacceptable. I was able to hard reset once but now it won't even respond to that. Ugh

This error usually has to do with the wet side. It has to be able to spin freely and it has to be aligned properly at lower speeds or it will come to a grinding halt.

Unplug the power cable and hold the dry side in your hand. Plug it back in while still holding the dry side in your hand. Turn the power on. Can you "feel" and "hear" the motor spinning? If so then it must be something with the wet side.

Make sure the wet side will spin without any grinding. Spin the propeller with your finger and watch for a smooth spinning action. If it is able to spin without a problem then you are on you way to the next step.

Now install both dry and wet side back on your aquarium. Try aligning it the best you visually can. Now be sure to turn the power knob almost all the way up before you plug the power cable. Now push the power button to turn it on. It will vibrate heavily, but once it's spinning you can fine tune the vibration from the wet side only. I hope that helps.

I had this problem when I bought my first one. I thoguht the wet side had a protective cup on it. So I took it off and put it straight on the glass. NOPE... that was the issue.. I should have let the cup on.

Put it back on and the blinking stopped. Has run perfectly ever since day 0.5 .
