Coral novice asking stupid question
Hi All,
So I currently have a FOWLR and thinking about making a migration towards some corals. Now I know absolutely the bare minimum about them right now, still learning all I can, but since I'd be moving from the FO side...I probably have reef killers in terms of fish. My question was are there any easy/beginner corals/Inverts that are compatible with a large emperor angel, or is it just a fantasy..and I have to find a new home for him? I also have a Picasso trigger and rainbow wrasse, but figured the angel was the biggest risk since they are known coral nippers. I am hoping to avoid providing what will be a fancy meal for the fish. Oh..and what are the best research sites to start to learn more? Thanks!

I'd look into leathers and mushroom to start.
Go for a frag of each and see how they do.

emperor angel eats most of corals, but I have one in my SPS reef ... if you keep it well fed, it should only nip here and there, but since you are just getting into corals, it might not be something good.
I would also move the trigger. start with testing the water parameters more often, what is the lighting ? I would start with some easy corals, like softies, kenya tree coral and alike even zoas. when they start to grow u can look for more complicated ones like LPS corals. and eventuallt SPS . .... |

Right now I have things in a 90gal tank (yeah I know the fish will get too big at some point) and I just acquired a 4x96W (384W) PC fixture which is the real reason I started to think about this at all.
I was initially thinking mushrooms or a toadstool but like I said..really no idea just yet.

Yea, the Emperor Angel will probably have some pretty expensive lunches. Humu won't do anything, but he'll eat your clean up crew, which is useful in a reef tank.
It took me awhile, but I eventually came to grips with the reality that any reasonably sized reef tank would pretty much limit my fish selection less than 1/4 of what's available at the LFS. That's okay though, nothing wrong with having many, many tanks. |
