How to post a pic using a free service such as Photobucket

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way, shape, or form supported, endorsed, or compensated by Reef Central or Photobucket.com. I created this tutorial simply to help members of the Reef Central Online Community post pictures. No more, no less. Thank you.

Ok now I know that many of you out there would like to post pics of your tank but have no clue as to how to do. Don't feel bad I also did not know how to post pics at one point. I am putting this little photo guide togeather for all of you out there in hopes that you will be able to post your pictures.
Well the first thing you will have to do is find a service to host your pictures. I would recommend www.photobucket.com it is free and easy to use

I am going to assume that you are going to use photobucket at this time, but I will also include how to link pictures from other websites or hosting service.
Ok click on free sign up and you will be brought to a screen like this, fill it out and use a real email addresse, as you have to activate the account. But don't worry they wont send you spam. And also make sure to change from premium to free, that way it wont cost you anything to post your pictures.

After completeing that page you will be taken to a page that will ask you to check out there sponsers. Now this is up to, I didn't so I just clicked no, thanks at the bottom

Ok now it wil tell you that you need to go to your email account to activate your account, so do that, you should have an email waiting for you that will look like this

Open the email and click the link inside, this will activate your account and you will be able to host some pictures. If done right you will see this screen

Ok now you will need to login to your account using the name and password you picked

Ok for this part I am going to show you how I would upload and post a picture to RC.
First we need to upload, so lets click on the browse button

It will pull up this screen and we then need to just find the pic we took on our harddrive and click open, I am using the one called Fish Tank

Ok now just click Submit and you are good to go

If your picture was uploaded you will see this if you scroll down in your album

Now if you are like me you take huge pictures, if you leave them large it will be hard for people to view your pics, so lets shrink them some. In photbucket that is easy just click edit

And then pick how much you want to shrink it, you are shooting for a size of about 800x600, give or take a few pixels. So for me that is about 75%, then click resize

Ok that is all there is to that.
Now to post a picture. This is how to do it if using photobucket, I will post how to do it from another site after this so don't leave yet.
Ok in photobucket just highlight and copy (ctrl+c) the choice under the pic that is in the img choice, here is a pic of what I mean

Ok now that you have it copied go to the thread in RC that you want to show the pic and paste (ctrl+v) the addresse that you just copied, either in the quick response box or in the normal box. You can also type in with the pics just make sure and hit enter after you paste the picture so it will be the start of a new line.

That is all there is to posting a pic with photbucket, now how to do it from another site or hosting service

Ok now if your pictures are on another site it is also very easy.
First find the pic, then put your mouse over the pic and hit the right mouse button, it will pull up a menu. Click properties

Now highlight and copy (ctrl+c) the addresse

Ok for this one we don't want to use the quick reply we will have to select post reply on the RC thread we are going to add a pic to. Once in the post reply scren click on the img button above where you type in text. It will pop-up a java window.

Now paste (ctrl+v) the addresse we just copied and hit OK

If you did it right you will get this in your reply window

Now just hit submit reply as usual and you have posted a pic. Ok that is all there is to, hope that helps everyone. If you have any further questions just ask.

Thanks Brian, I was just explaining this a lot lately and it is easier to see in pics than it is to explain. I am so mushy now inside.

Thanks for putting this up on here. I was wondering how to post pics.

You also did quite a nice job of it too. The pics of the screens are very helpful. Thanks again.

Brian

Wow, now I can say I know a famous person.

Seriously, I believe Adam posted this thread after teaching me in the lounge. After one or two errors I found it so easy, and it has also made my browsing so much more fun.

A big vote of thanks on behalf of all R/C members, Mike

I am using Firefox as my browser, so go to File, then to Page set-up, make sure the box that says Shrink to fit page width is checked.
In IE I am not sure how.

Oh even better, just highlight what you want to print, then click print, choose the selection box, then hit print. That should do it.
