Vodka Doesing Question

I have some confusion about whether or not vodka brings down phosphate or if I should be still running rowa phose. Most of my algae is gone just a little green fuzz here and there. I have a 120g tank lost of rock. I does 15ml of vodka per day.

Vodka dosing can reduce phosphate if there is also free nitrate in the system. Additionally, carbon dosing doesn't remove nearly as much phosphate as it does nitrate. A ballpark figure of 16 parts nitrate to 1 part phosphate is a decent proportion of reduction to use when considering your options. Many have said they used a little GFO when carbon dosing.

How high is the phosphate level? As has been said, carbon dosing requires a lot of fixed nitrogen to remove phosphate.

I have not tested the phosphate. but nitrates are about 0, so if I keep getting algae I assume that its from phosphate

Algae require both nitrogen and phosphorus to grow, but they probably are consuming the nitrogen as it's released into the water column, assuming the measurement is correct.

Vodka

My little knowledge is that it is good for parasite control and general tank well being. Dosing at 2 ml per 100 gal x 3 days

I'm not sure why it would be good for parasite control. Do you have a reference?

I would suggest testing for phosphates and double checking the 0 nitrates with a different test kit.
Cheers! Mark
