Wave Makers

Im setting up a new 250 reef tank, my first reef tank, and got a little carried away buying stuff one night and now im not sure i need it. I bought a Tunze Wavebox. Should i use it or not? Dont see a whole lot of conversation about these.

I have a wavebox on every tank that I own. I would not have a tank without one. The back-forth moves more water in/out of stuff than all of the flow pumps that you could magnet to your tank. You need some flow pumps too to move water around, but a wavebox keeps stuff suspended and gets back behind the rocks too.

Thanks for that. Then I guess it is in. Only problem I have now is the one i bought has magnets rated for only 1/2 inch glass. Guess i need to figure out how to mount it.

Did you get the big one? The little one probably won't push enough water in a tank that large.

which is apparetnly the small one. But I looked at the specs and its good for tanks up to 211 gal. The bigger one is for tanks up to 370 gal. However both come with magnets rated to 1/2 inch thick. I just tried it and it seems to hold okay. I need to run it for a few days and see how it does. I seem to be on the edge of the big one and small one so I will try what I have and see how it goes.
