Very similar looking but all the pics of seen of the bada bing has more pink in it. Also have only seen pics of freshly collected ones none that have been in a system long enough to color up.

It's getting there we added some sand today looks much better.

Aside from a calcium reactor, do you use any trace elements that you would recommend?

No additives just water changes the occasional dose of KNo3 if nitrates get to low but with the amount of fish that I just threw in the system hopefully won't have to

Looks great so far, as a fellow LI'er, what LFS do you frequent for all the wild colonies?

Those are nice big healthy colonies!
Whenever Aussie colonies arrive here, they are so pale and stressed, it takes a good 6 months to bring them back.

Loving your set up and the colonies are great, please follow up with pics of colour changes. I have some kno3 that I wanted to try in my frag tank what dosage do you recommend and what are the pro and cons .
We are supposed to be getting the best aussie shipment of the year in tomorrow so going to be an expensive visit to the lfs.

Yea some of the biggest ones I have seen in awhile. Im very lucky to finally find a good supplier of aussies and have been all coming in very healthy.
But I will take a bleached out Aussie over a brown turd maricultred colony any day.

Thank you Bill
I most certainly be posting some progression shots as they color up.
As far as the Kno3 dosing goes I mix up 40g of Kno3 powder with 500ml of RO. And currently dosing about 10ml/day and will adjust according to water tests. My No3 is just barely detectable right now so I am slowly raising the dosage every week until I get to around 2-5 No3.

As far as dosing on your system I would start slow say 2-5ml per day and slowly raise it until you start to see a reading on your test kit. It's like dosing anything else start at half or lower of the recommend dosage and observe the system for positive or negative results.

Personally I haven't had any downsides to dosing Kno3. Only heard of people having problems with cyano, algae blooms or elevated K levels. But couldn't tell you how much they were dosing what other things they may have been dosing many factors that can go into those issues.

Hope you get a nice shipment will be looking forward to seeing some pics.

If have any other questions feel free I'll try to answer the best I can.

What made you decide to use halides? I thought everything was LED or T5 anymore.

The best success for color and growth I have had is with MH and don't plan on changing anytime soon. To effectively light this system with LED the upfront cost would be ridiculous. But if a truck full of Radion G4 crashed in front of my house I would consider switching.
