That really is a one of a kind fish. Thanks for sharing!!!

BTW, is that a S. mertensii carpet???
Yes,it's a S. mertensii carpet.

Well, it came in as white cap. I figured if anyone knew, you knew best.

Looks great! Is that the same one from the first pic? If so, you'll have to share how you got it looking so healthy.

I wanted to add that I stared at your fish last night at some length and was doing some comparisons. I didn't want to say anything yesterday but I think your fish is not a thiellei. The first hint was the lack of a white marking at the tail base (caudal peduncle.)
I think that it is an A. perideraion x A. sandaracinos cross. That's even more rare than A. thiellei. It is to date the most beautiful skunk hybrid I've seen. Take good care of that beauty.

hi Vap,
Not sure I follow you. Appoll??? This definately does not fit into any of the normal species descriptions in the skunk complex.
Given your trade, if you know where to get more like the one pictured, please let me know. I checked with Fedex a couple weeks ago and CAN can ship priority overnight to the US.

Im pretty sure this is a hybrid.Even the rare morphs that come out of Fiji dont have this coloration. This fish has a much better apperince than "just a skunk".The body shape isnt even the same as "just a skunk".Nothing of this fish seems to me that it is "just a skunk".

sorry you are right, I really haven't look at them in a long while. But they do have the skunk bodyshape. The coloration of fin_wing's actually do look like a normal akallopiso coloration, it has that yellowish bottom with color transition up to pink/brown at the top.

It does have the shape to a point, but its not shaped just like a skunk.Hard to explaine but this fish has a wider shape IMO than a normal skunk. The fish also has a much diffirent color pattern than the normal skunk.

I would say it has the general youthful body plan, similar head bar and pink base color of A. perideraion but it has yellow anterior markings consistant with other A. sandaracinos hybrids such as A. leucokranos and A sandaracinos in general.

Keep in mind that a lot of skunks beef up around the mid section when they become female.

Well I have confirmed at least one more A. thiellei is out there (possibly a pair) in the UK. Waiting on a better picture of one of them that I suspect is actually A. leucokranos.

Oh, and I got another A. thiellei two days ago but since it came from another hobbyist, I don't think that really improves the worldwide numbers any.

Are you couting (have counted) Mike (Zoa Fan on MichiganReefers.com)? I don't know if he still has the single, but that's one more.

...Aloha Mr. Chan!

Deathwish,
I didn't know about that particular handle, but I recognize the fish. That is the same one that is owned by "marroonytunes" on RCF. So, no. That doesn't help the count. If you are friends with him, I have failed to get a response from him as to whether I may use his photos on my site. I would like to have pics of all the A. thielleis worldwide on my site....

Sorry Walt... I was just surfing MR for any rare spawners in SE MI and stumbled on a single within a stones throw. I don't really know the reefers in MI yet, as I have more roots in NE IN and East-Central PA/NY/DE/MD.

Thanks! ...and I agree with pairing it with either a sandaracinos or an ocellaris.

It would be great if you (and others) could put your name in your signature so we can have an idea who we're talking to on this and other forums where the handle might be different. I'm just saying....
