With that this I am thinking about using a LED setup with these spec.

32 LEDs
4320 Lumen
3W watt LEDs
24x 10000K LEDs
8x Actinic 460nm LEDs

I was told this would be suffice but may be very white. Because of this I bought a another fixture.

144x 1w LED
1420 Lumens
cycles through a couple of different colors.

With that being said, will the first fixture give off what I need to purchase corals, put them in my tank and not expect them to die in a week or two.

I appreciate your feed back.
Do you have a product link? Read up here a bit before you pull the trigger. There is a ton of experimentation going on and folks are posting some great results with a few different manufacturers.

my advice so far...

lumens, don't even think in these terms...its all about PAR
1w LED's...ditch em for 3w
144 1w LEDs, would work, but more heat, and more stuff to break, go with the tried and true 55x3 array
your white count...yes, not a great ratio. go closer to 2 to 1 blue white, 1 to 1 at the most as long as you can dim the whites independently
Get creative with color. If you get on with on of the suppliers, they can do a custom job for you at a good price. I can refer to Lyn as well if you PM me your info...he is my little buddy there in China.

I read in a diy forum that the greens do not do much so I left them out. I might get some extra just in case I want to give them a try.

i am not sure that is what i would call accurate. there is alot of very subjective information on forums unfortunately so you need to weigh it all out. I see the impact on my PAR lights definitely. But of course that is 1 out of 12 LEDS. the reds definitely show up more, but the green is there, it is subtle.

I think of it more as balancing the spectrum...figure the corals might like it more and it is pleasing to the eye. double bonus in my opinion,

Kennedy1, definitely do alot of research. There is a ton of great information in this thread and I would suggest reading through some of the threads in the diy section. I would agree with tomgndallas that Lyn is good to deal with. I enjoy my daily emails with him.

These don't have nearly the quality of the fixtures that most people have tried in this thread. Aqua Traders is a terrible company to deal with.

I know they are junk but I am getting them as a gift (Getting married in September, one of groomsmen bought them for me and are being shipped in next week, so my tank will be setup in my house before her family comes in). I have read some good reviews on them, but everyone kept saying it was going to be too white. So I bought the blue LEDs for color. So, could someone please let me know if corals will grow with these lights lol If they can I'm going to use them until they crash and then get a good set of lights afterwords, simply because these are free. If not them I'm going to have to postpone the reef tank until after the wedding and honey moon.

What types of corals are you planning on? I have one of these on my tank right now with a few zoas, xenia, briarium, mushrooms, and sun coral. All seem to be happy and growing.

Just looking to upgrade to the Twilights for the integral controller and better LEDs.

What color blues did you get with your other strip? How many blues and whites total will you have between the two?
The only thing I could suggest is to give them a try. Since they did not cost you anything, set them up and get a cheap frag to test. My lfs has a bargain tank where all the frags are $7. I think that is where he puts the frags that are not doing so well. I got a couple zoa, a xenia, and mushrooms from there and they are doing great now.
The one thing that you are going to wish you had is a dimmer and timer. With my light each color is controlled through an individual switch and the fixture only has one cord. So I have to manually switch the colors on my light throughout the day. That is what I like most about my new Twilights no more having to worry about flipping any switches.

This is the second light. I got it fully for the color aspect because I would be able to tune it into what I want the tank to look like and the other light will be for the corals.

Just wonder if your other fixture is going to overpower this one.

Comments/Review:
Customer service from both of my reps was fantastic, they answered all my questions promptly and tolerated me even though I changed my mind every day. A+ for both of these guys (Ada vacationed near end of discussion, Brian took over)

Product review:
Well packaged, exact spectrum I ordered. Shipped and arrived earlier than ETA even as a custom/new item they designed for me. All units arrived in perfect working condition.

First thing very note worthy with this light is the blue does not seem as artificial as previous chinese LED fixtures I have had. The spectrum seems to blend together extremely well, its not to blue, its not to white.. its just nice and smooth. My tank looks very crisp and sharp.. it reminded of those nice pictures of the Fluval aquariums to be honest.

What I dont like: The whites have a very sharp dimming curve, its seems like there isnt much adjusting them its either full blast, half dim, or almost off. Its not a huge deal, I am able to still dial into a spectrum I like very easily, I just wonder if my eye isnt picking up the subtle changes..

Moonlights are surprisingly bright, not sure how I feel about that at this point. I need to monitor my fish and make sure they react before I decide how I feel about it.

Only thing I would maybe consider changing would be lower wattage moonlights, and maybe use 2 UV instead of 4, possibly adding more violet or red in there place.

Overall:
My shopping experience was a very good one, both Reps were very quick to help. The products were delivered promtly, well packaged and exactly to the specification I ordered. I am 100% pleased with the product, now to clean up the wire mess!

My imageshack images arent loading =(

I'm looking for a way to enhance my standard white/blue chinese leds. Will stunners be strong enough to give me some red/purple/pink? Is there something else I can use. I've got a good spot for a thin 48" fixture.

I actually tried that and it didnt work, I also tried < img src " " > and that didnt work, its an isolated issue with imageshack not letting people hotlink to them anymore I guess if they arent premium or something... I just uploaded to flikr, all good now can see pics.

Hi guys,

I'm a new reefer and I just picked up a 55 gallon saltwater tank. I'm looking to have a bunch of corals and fish in there.

I'm looking to upgrade the lighting system (currently has 6 compact fluorescents).

From what I've seen, people order either the 30B, 15W, 4V, 4R, 2G or the 34B, 17W, 4V.

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...586828063.html

Vs.

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...578815592.html

What do you guys think will be best? Or is there something else I should try?

Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks everyone!

Yeah we are testing our new model, but it is not D120, it is a total new design model with LCD/sunrise/sunset/advanced heating sink/Secondary optical lens option, etc..

We are trying to start promotion the end of August. We need your review and help too.

By the way, RC members will surely get discount for this light.

Best Regards,

Hope this is something to look forward to and the D120 is a very good light.
