Mold (Comprehensive)

So, I have recently found white fuzzy mold on parts inside my hood filter. I have never had an issue with mold, though I have had a tank for a year. I am having a hard time finding comprehensive and somewhat credible information regarding mold issues in saltwater tanks, sumps, hoods, filters, etc... It appears as if this is not that common, or it is somewhat common at low levels in sumps bru negligable. I have read theories of too much feeding and rotten food getting caught in the filters but not much else. I am wondering how common this is in the hobby? If its more common with freshwater tanks than saltwater as saltwater tends to inhibit mold growth? If it is pretty normal to have small amounts of mold? When it becomes a problem? The causes of too much as well as the remedies? And possibly types of common molds and identification strategie.

Thanks,

Most of us are not doing our homes a favor by putting 1-3++ gallons of evaporated water a day into them. If your's is a new well sealed home, and is closed up tightly with out any open windows, an outside air exchanger might be needed. If you feel this is a small problem isolated to the space, then increasing ventining and air circulation in the canopy should help fix the problem.

+1

Always be prepared for this one. Unless you live in a ridiculously humid area. Then your house will probably be pre-prepped.

I had to deal with mold growing inside one of my stands. Took everything out, cleaned it out, disinfected it, hardened the wood, sealed the edges and painted it with weather-resistant porch paint. Was stupid of me not to from the get go.
