Ok, so I have been running these fore 2 days and just logged onto my Apex to check the electric usage. My old T5s used 7.1 amps per day, and the LEDs only use 2.5 amps per day. Now maybe I will see a little something in my electric bill next month, and see cooler temps in my tank.

BTW I got some PAR readings. My old T5s at the sand, 31" deep and the lights about 10" off the water was about 60. THe LEDs are 140+ at the same place.

Jk can you post a link to which leds you went with? I just bought a 350g tank and was looking into this Chinese leds but wasn't sure if i would get penetration for a 30-31ish deep tank bit it looks like that's the depth you're running? Curious to see how you feel like they perform.

Now I'm baffled....these knew use 1W leds it looks like which I thought troptea was saying suck for output compared to 3W??? Jk do you know what kind of leds are in the fixture Cree/bridgelux/episode etc?? They don't have any special optics and you are still getting good par that deep?? Hmmm interesting.

LMFAO, MADE IN USA... Sorry but thats just not going to cut it for me.
Ive bought Many items made in USA and i wish i didnt. Ill take your word for it, I dont own these units, But saying they are made in the States Means profanity removed to me. Id trust made in India Before i trust made in USA again. Ill stick with the CHeaper NO name made in China for half the price, And i know their is not 5 middle men making 10-20 points on each sale. Agreed. Why don't you find some LEDs made in Canada then. I hear they are really nice.

There is no proof or notification anywhere that Boostled makes the units in the US, only that they are a US company. Does it say it on the unit itself?
They look more like customized versions of the Taos. The extra $$ gets a bit better quality and US support. That itself can be worth it in the long run. I prefer the direct from China approach and cost value myself, but that boost fixture does look great over your tank. Last edited by bhazard451; 05/11/2012 at 07:43 AM. |

The quality is much better than the Tao's and those are good. I do not mind spending a bit more for the heat sinks and the customer support, as I want to know I can get help if needed. I was not saying the Black Boxes from China were a bad option, just that I prefer this option.

I've been waiting years for LED fixtures to mature in output and become affordable, and now is a great time to make the switch. I'm most likely going to modify my fixture, and even try to work a LED controller into it like this one: http://www.boostled.com/collections/...controller-kit Seems like all i would need to do is cut a hole in the casing, and connect the internal wires to the controller. It "should" work having dimmable drivers on the Nova. If it does, and I change out a few leds, I can have a kit very comparable to a Radion for $280 total. That is just awesome. |

2 of the 212 watt units or 2 of the 141 watt units? im just not sure if the 2 212 units (424 watts) would be to much for my tank, im thinking yes but not sure. my current lights are a 48" tek t5 8 bulb unit at 432 watts total. thanks for your input. |

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/3178...e-NOVA-A4.html That new Tao you linked to and the Nova A6 are almost the same unit, except the Nova one is dimmable. The Nova A6 would be $293 shipped I think I was quoted. Two of these or the older models would both work great. Its up to you to decide if you want the extra improvements of the newer models for a higher price. |
