Balling method mixes ok?

Hi Guys,

I'm planning on mixing up the following for dosing - do the quantities\mixes look ok?

CONTAINER 1:
Aquaforest Calcium - Dissolve 50g in 1000ml of deionized water
Aquaforest Magnesium - Add 10g
Component A Strong - Add 10ml
Component B Strong - Add 10ml

CONTAINER 2:
Aquaforest KH Buffer - Dissolve 80g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component C Strong - Add 10ml

CONTAINER 3:
Aquaforest Reef Mineral Salt - Dissolve 25g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component K Strong - Add 10ml

What is the correct amount of Component? 5 or 10ml?
On your balling method page, the guide advises to dose 10ml, but
your product page states 5ml? Which is correct?

http://www.aquaforest-store.co.uk/balling-method.html =10ml
http://aquaforest.eu/product/components-strong/ =5ml

Thanks

As we wrote by e-mail:
Our distributor probably make mistake on his website.
Correct dose is 5ml.

So:
CONTAINER 1:
Aquaforest Calcium - Dissolve 50g in 1000ml of deionized water
Aquaforest Magnesium - Add 10g
Component A Strong - Add 5ml
Component B Strong - Add 5ml

CONTAINER 2:
Aquaforest KH Buffer - Dissolve 80g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component C Strong - Add 5ml

CONTAINER 3:
Aquaforest Reef Mineral Salt - Dissolve 25g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component K Strong - Add 5ml

I do get how the mixing goes, but could you please explain to me how to dose every one of the solutions?
Example...
If KH is low I know how much to pour of the KH buffer solution but how about the other 2 solutions??

thanks

These all work at the same ratio, so once you get the parameters at target levels, you would then determine a starting dose. While determining doses, I personally only concern myself with alkalinity, in terms of daily testing. I then test each day, at the same time, to determine my alk uptake ratio. I continue daily testing, my goal is to get alk to not drift or rise, so once I determine my target point, I then make sure that calcium and magnesium are at my target. I then buffer until they reach target. Once you are dialed in, it should be pretty linear between all the products. The method will bring the elements and trace into alignment. Some may need to use a calcium or magnesium buffer, especially if you want higher levels, this will all be determined through testing. Cheers

When mixing this:

CONTAINER 2:
Aquaforest KH Buffer - Dissolve 80g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component C Strong - Add 10ml

Do you use a scale or do you use a tablespoon? What do you use to measure 10ml of component c?

Thanks!

This is correct recipe for Component 2

Bottle/Component 2:
AF KH Buffer~ 80 grams per 1 liter
Component C Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

I use a digital scale to measure grams and a liquid measuring cup that has ml readings as well.

This is a question that arises for ANY use of stock solutions for adapting c, Alk and Mg (2 / 3 part).
That is as manufacturers use a bit different "recipes" and can their customers only by instructions for use what the have to dose.
This is because each tank
- has different water volume
- has different comsumption of Ca/Alk/Mg (which might even cange if you eg add new corals)

AquaCalculator software (Windows and iOS versions, Android not yet) calculate you exactly what you are asking for.

This is how it works:
- select the recipe you use (eg AFs products)
- get a hint how to mix (if you don't buy stock solutions already)
- are asked for your tanks water volume (1 time only)
- are asked which consumptions of Ca/Alk/Mg you "would like to do" (or to which levels you want to achieve)
-> you are told exactly how much of the separate components/stock solutions you have to dose

yes - if you want to have 4 containers is ok.
But this is important to dose in equal dose to dose microelements in equal dose.

Thanks for your reply. I'll dose them in equal amounts.

I'm planning on mixing up the following for dosing

Kalkwasser dosing during the night to help with low pH replaces 50% of the demand for Ca and alk.

During the day ONLY dosing Container 1, 2.

CONTAINER 1:
Aquaforest Calcium - Dissolve 50g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component A Strong - Add 10ml
Component B Strong - Add 10ml

CONTAINER 2:
Aquaforest KH Buffer - Dissolve 80g in 1000ml of deionized water ***will bake it to make sodium carbonate*****
Component C Strong - Add 10ml

Dosing of container 3 and 4 during day AND night:

CONTAINER 3:
Aquaforest Reef Mineral Salt - Dissolve 25g in 1000ml of deionized water
Component K Strong - Add 5ml

CONTAINER 4:
MgSO4 (epsom salt) - dissolve 10g in 1000mL of deionized water
***sulfate is VERY low in my tank, need to correct***

This is all ok? Is there going to be precipitation if Comp Strong is doubled in Container 1 and 2???

Corals consumed micro proportionally with macro. I don't think that this is good idea to use 2x more micro. I understand that this is because of dosing kalkwasser?

Why you don't want to use normal recipe?
Ca+mg+ micro
KH (bicarbonate)+micro
Reef Mineral Salt+Micro

Hello Mindy

- for what reason do you want to "combine" Kalkwasser and 2/3 part dosing? This makes things more complicated. I would fully switch to dosing only. Get rid of the Kalk-stirrer and just let your ATO do it's job in replacing the freshwater lost.
The "low ph" you mentioned has other reasons behind but not the dosing of "Aquaforest KH Buffer" (it is already quite ph neutral!). Give your skimmer/tank "fresh air" and you shouldn't have a ph-Issue as long as you don't have some fouling stuff in your tank

- Even if you think you are low on sulfates, i wouldn't suggest to use MgSO4 but MgCl2. I see no positve reasons why to have sulfates in a tank. The risk of overdosing sulfates would be too high for me. Don't forget the needed dose of the liquid solution of Mg will change also in case you do. Taking another product (BRS or whatever) is totally fine if it's because of some $ cheaper. 10g/Liter is a very.... low concentration .. could be much higher in order to reduce the size of your Mg container

- Trace elements: you not only use 2 types of traces (NaCl free salt AND Strong components), you also plan to double the amount of strong components. For me this would be by far too much traces.

of course you can do and try out what you like and of course i highly appreciate if you come up with own suggestions..... anyhow i don't recommend to go too far away from a well known and tested recipee

best rgds
Martin
