Another skimmer question??

Really tired of issues I keep running into.
What would be considered middle of the road that will last at least three years without having to service anything except cleaning.
I also need one that is quiet.
Sick of the cheap stuff. They end up becoming more expensive.
Tank is lightly stocked, 120. SPS mainly.

Nyos 160 high end on cost.
Simplicity 240 low end on cost.
Used EM200 by Aqua Maxx very popular skimmer.

If you want something that will be dependable and past a long time...two brands I have used is Bubble King or ATB. Both are rock solid and high quality. Check the used equipment forums for occasionally they show up and save some bucks. Otherwise buy with confidence new.

Great idea staying away from coralvue. Best out there is Lifereef. Been arround for years and will outlive any of the new fancy skimmers.

ATB is having or had a summer sale, so a better price. I just bought a Simplicity 240 for my 120 gallon tank, these are too new for a longevity tract record. The Nyos have been around for a while so they have a proven history,
The Aqua Maxx old skimmers are good they had a bad impeller and now it has been replaced with a new style that is much better. I have a JNS S Co-2 and the old style impeller just went out not feeling a 90 dollar impeller so I put my BNIB Simplicity 240 skimmer.

MTC is also excellent. I have had the Lifereef and now have the MTC. Both are great. They are, hands down, the best you can get.

Buying an inexpensive skimmer only means you will soon be buying another one and then you will have spent more than getting a good one first.

Been there, done that. Finally sucked it up and bout the Lifereef. I broke it and bought the MTC.

So the three that I have considered,
Nyos, ATB and Deltec.

Upon further investigation, the Nyos is actually only assembled in Germany. They won't reveal where the parts are made. Hence, issues with breaking plastic parts.

So it's down to ATB 840 and Deltec SC 1455.
The Deltec is the old model which has really stood the test of time.
Somehow, I cannot find the rating for the ATB.

Ratings are under tech details. I have used BK, Deltec and ATB. Of those I have stuck with ATB. I won’t switch. Deltec can be iffy with support if needed.

Thanks!

And the winner........

ATB nano!
I have considered MTC and lifereef. I really just wanted to go with plug and play.
Thanks everyone for your input. This new skimmer set me back 400 bucks.
But the support I got from RC is PRICELESS!

Thank you. I am hoping the nano will be big enough for my 120. I see the total air draw is higher than my Ice cap. Although the body is smaller..

They have been around for many years and I think they developed the cone skimmer (don’t quote me on that). When I was in the market for a new skimmer I did a lot of research and contacted a lot of long term successful reefers. Many of them in Europe. It was a brand used in many of my all time favorite displays so I convinced myself it was worthy. I never have looked back! Good luck!

Do you know if the Nano came with a controller? It's a DCT pump. Not sure what that means.
I asked ATB but did not get a response.

Not sure but I would assume so if it is a DC pump . My ATB is an AC pump so it was plug and play. Is there a number you can call?

No number that I can find. I’m so surprised at the lack of communication from them. I have placed an order and had a couple of inquiries. No reply whatsoever.
So I asked what’s going on with the order today.

The answer?

May ship today.

That’s it. I just pray that I won’t need any support for the skimmer, if it does arrive.

if you need any help with the nano let me know. when you get it mark the removable bubble plates so if you remove them when cleaning, they can be put back in the same spot. they are a precision press fit and ATB installs them out of the shop at the correct levels to optimize performance. i removed mine for cleaning and put them back in at different heights and the performance lagged a bit until i moved them back to close to the picture. i e-mailed ATB and they gave me the info. Oh, also, If you're looking for quiet then that's the skimmer for you.

i have one. great shorty skimmer.
