Sand Cleaning Tip....Works Great!

Hey guys I just wanted to share a tip I picked up. If you have a sump down below your tank you can utilize this technique in your maintenance. Ok so all you do is when you siphon your sand bed as you usually would you stick the line that would normally go in a bucket and you instead put it in a filter sock in your sump and tahdah! Now you have an infinite circle in which you can vacuum your sand to your hearts content! I personally use 200 micron felt socks in my sump. When you get done your sock will look terrible so you will need yo make sure you remove and clean. Also make sure you don't let your sock get too much crud or it will poor in the sump once it gets plugged. I usually siphon a 1/3 of my tank every 4 days to a week as to not disturb bacterial colonization but that's just me hope this helps someone. It has helped me.Enjoy!

Good advice, but yea it isn't necessary to put the same topic on multiple different boards.

If you don’t have a sump, vacuuming without changing water can be accomplished with an air pump, stone, and mesh bag rubber banded to a plastic bottle.

King of DIY did a video about it on YouTube.
