Where should my reactor water empty into?
Hello,
I will need to run a separate pump which will be housed in my sump to feed my reactors and there is no room in my stand to house a manifold. My three questions are if you can help: Which compartment should I house the pump? I've had a play around and the best configurationand would be to house the pump in refugium and reactors (phosban 150) hanging on the side of the tank in the skimmer/ filter sock section and then running hose from pump to reactor. Would this be OK? Or would it be better in another compartment? After the reactor has processed the water I. E two reactors one with carbon and the other with rowaphos which compartment should I run the water into? Do you run the processed water into the same comparent? Does any of that matter? Thanks |

I don't think it really matters TBH.
For my own sanity, I pull from the skimmer section(first section of my sump), and empty into the return section(last section). In my own mind, even though I was told different, I'm not refilling the reactor with the same water that already went through it by filling and emptying into the same compartment.

got a similar setup to yours, and I put my pump in skimmer section, and empty in drain section(from the DT)

Maybe I'm weird, but I pull water from the same section as the return pump and then have the reactor dump back into the beginning of the sump. I figure having the water flow through the sump a second time will make sure it's nice and clean when the return pump picks it up and sends it to the display tank.

It doesn't matter so put them wherever it is easiest to service them. There tend to be more critters in refugiums so typically I avoid those areas.

Agreed that it doesn't really matter. Prior to installing my manifold, I had my reactor pumps in the return section because that is where they would fit (I have 2 separate reactors for carbon and GFO) and had the outflow going into the baffle/filter sponge in between the fuge and return sections.

I pull my water from the return pump section and put the outlets into my filter socks. This allows me to catch any carbon or gfo that may get loose from the reactor.
