Vodka dosing question
i'm 2 weeks into vodka dosing my RS 650 reef which i'm estimating at 125 net gallons and i'm currently dosing 2ml/day (half in a.m./half in p.m.).
can people who have been vodka dosing please give me an idea of what your maintenance dose is (and of course how many net gallons your system is). i'm increasing my dosing by .5ml weekly but have no idea if i should expect to be increasing for weeks/months etc... thanks in advance |

I have a roughly 100g system and dose Vodka/Vinegar/RODI mix (used a mix solution that can be found in this forum). I dosed up to 20-25ml daily spread out over the day before I started see a white "haze" to the water.
I've since learned I to back down to a maintenance dose. Yesterday backed down to 18ml from 26ml daily (again spread out over 4 dosings per day). No results yet as it is too soon. Hope this helps.

700gallons ; 24ml 80 of vodka in the am plus 60 ml of 5% acetic acid vinegar ( equivalent to 8.5 ml of vodk in additional carbon content; and 12 ml of the vodka in the pm. In terms of carbon content that equals roughly 44.5ml of the vodka for 700gallons perday , which has been plenty for my hevily fed system for the last 8 years or so.

4 ml per day (split into two doses)
86 gallon net water volume Lifereef skimmer 12 fish (heavy bioload, 2 tangs and a foxface) NO3 hangs out around 0.25-2 ppm PO4 0.03-0.07 No PO4 remover presently used. I’ll run some gfo on occasion if it gets over 0.1 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

i appreciate the feedback. i'm starting with NO3 at 50 and PO4 at .65 so i expect it to take quite some time til i see results. added a chaeto reactor as well to attack the nutrients. will update.

I’d keep upping the dose by 0.5 ml per week until nitrates are reduced down to 5 ppm or so, then use phosphate remover to get the rest of the phosphate down. There’s a chance the vodka and chaeto may not reduce the phosphate by enough once nitrate bottoms out

I dose 30 drops a day in my 25 gallon tank.
Keeps my nitrate at 5 ppm. |
