Smile Great Barrier Breeder of the Smokies

Hello, everyone im gonna start a 40 breeder build thread, I've already have the tank, overflow and return, sump and a diy stand. I will add pics as soon as I can figure out how to make them small enough to upload.

The sump is a 20 L, I just finished gluing the baffles. The background is an oil base satin that only took two coats to completely black it out. The overflow kit is the 700 gph from glass holes and a 1/2" return.

Looking good. I love my 40 breeder, it is the home to my peacock mantis. I too have a glass holes kit for my 56 that I have yet to set up because I will be moving soon. But I digress, I'm tagging along.

I ordered a 700 gph mag drive and some 1.5" pvc flex pipe this morning so I will be able to test the flow pretty soon.

I did a test patch on the inside and the cherry was just too light so I went with a mahogany.

Finally done, the panel between the two doors is false, I can pull it out if I ever have to move the sump around.

I have my sump all hooked up and am very happy with the mag 7. I just ordered the jbj 2 1600 power heads and the duo wavemaker.

Things I still need.

• 6 bulb hood
• Skimmer
• Live rock and sand

Nice stand.. I need to make a better stand for my 40. Can't wait to see how your tank will look filled.

I got the jbj powerheads today....first thoughts are.... kinda big, the swivel ball could be tighter and I hear a light hum....other than that they move water great all throughout the tank.

I haven't given much thought about it yet, I do want a fire angell but that will be the last addition if I buy one....not too sure yet cause I read that they like to snack on corals. Maybe a clown or two and a few other small fish....any ideas?

50 lbs of fiji premium live rock, got it from blue water corals. Rock is pretty nice, I had to bust up one huge rock into smaller pieces and the coraline is spreading fast... red, purple and pink. Its all uneven and out of center at the moment, im waiting on the sand before I fix it.

Looking nice. I wouldn't add clowns. You'll be disappointed in them. Do you want shrimp and other inverts like them in the tank? If you don't, then I'd get some scorps. A Leaf Fish or two, a Dwarf Lionfish, Coral Crouchers, etc. They are all very cool, but will eat smaller fish and inverts. The will leave corals alone, though.

There are numerous options, fish wise, you could go with this tank. Blennies, dwarf angels, small wrasses, etc. Or, you could make this an invert only tank.

I have to get at least one clown, my gf wants one....that was the deal, I spend lots of money on a saltwater aquarium and she gets to pick out some of the fish and corals lol. I want a shrimp/goby pair and will be ordering several types of worms from ipsf.....the way she freaks out over earthworms id say she wont be happy. That's all I know for now...still have two weeks left on the cycle plenty of time to think about it.

lol@the GF.
Break up some rock to make rubble pieces for the future pistol. Gives him something to work with so he won't go for your frags as much.
