Here is the tank. They didn't vinyl the back... I guess I'll have to do it. I didn't want to wait "2 more weeks".
It weighs a good bit and then he stand is solid. Overall I'm pretty darn happy. I'll have to use the smaller standpipe. Last edited by Joeb1983; 03/22/2016 at 07:49 PM. |

Being shallow it makes it look longer. The edges on the glass are perfect.

Looks great I'm gonna follow along. I'm about to set up a 80 gallon shallow. I love the look of the rimless.

^ Thanks!
I love the look as well. Cost a pretty penny, but worth it. It's been a long time coming. Lol! I have a feeling evap is going to be a lot more than I'm used to. (I like high surface flow) I'm toying with the idea of painting/sealing the inside of the stand gloss white. My LFS did not have any schedule 80 BH's so I ordered some this evening. (Reef Octopus premiums) Checking out vinyl tomorrow. (I do not want to paint the back of this thing) |

I built a DIY stand and I painted the inside of it with gloss white enamel paint. It had some awful chemical smell for a couple days but it sees to be some pretty tough paint. haha.
I am also worried about evap, but I have a pretty good RO/DI system, |

I want to use pukani too, I am thinking 50#'s for my 80gallon shallow rimless. I want a minimal rock scape, will 50# be too much or not not enough, or just right?

I painted the inside cabinet of my 45 with white enamel as well and liked how it came out.
The 75 pounds of Pukani for this tank for me was more than enough. (I'd still get 75 if I did it again). Will I use all 75 pounds... Nope. I prefer to have more rock on hand than needed when aquascaping. That way you have more selection/options for the design/idea your shooting for, so going off my experience with Pukani; I don't see any issue with 50 pounds, unless your going minimal. I actually spend a bit of time aquascaping to avoid that wall/pile of rocks look. (That reminds me, I have to pick up some epoxy). Got a local estimate to vinyl the back... $170 ; so I will be painting it. lol! (Never wrapped vinyl or applied window tint, but I sure know how to mask and paint). ^ Only 15" tall.
I know the process isn't difficult, but I didn't want to risk messing it up and I'm a creature of habit. I already painted it today after work. Pretty easy. Just prepped the glass and rolled on some semi-gloss black. Looks great! |

Ordered some Reef Octopus "premium" schedule 80 bulkheads...
They look awesome with a double silicone O-ring; to bad I can't use them. For some reason these schedule 80 BH's have the installation hole size the same as schedule 40 or smaller... Not sure why?.. |

That sucks, because these bulkheads are killer. I've used them twice now in lieu of the regular black bulkheads. They are the only 1" schedule 80 ones I could find that fit in the smaller holes. The seated o-rings are way better than the standard washer style gasket on regular ones. |

I just saw schedule 80 and assumed they had the standard schedule 80 installation hole size. Here is their (RO schedule 80) specs for 1" and 1.5", against standard schedule 40 and 80 BH's of the same size: * RO 1": 42-43mm (Basically the same as schedule 40) * 40 1": 42mm * 80 1": 48mm * RO 1.5": 48-50mm (WAY smaller than 40 & 80) * 40 1.5": 59mm * 80 1.5": 64mm |

Since I'm using the AI nano to light my refugium, I'm going to have to hang instead of using the arm that came with it in order to center it over the chamber.
Since AI states there single module hanging kit does not work with the nano... I made my own out of a old dirt bike clutch cable. Here's how it came out. |

The Nano will easily keep macro no prob, plus the wireless controllability is always nice. I love it's small footprint as well. It has only 3 LED colors however: Deep blue Blue Cool white |
