on a side note these are not so cheap in aus, when i got my first one was $145, now they range from $75 - $100 so a lot of people opt for the cheaper $30 version and get a royal dottyback. WOuld be good to have a compariosn to these fish in a right up to make sure not confusing the terror of the RDB. |

Unfortunately, I've never been able to keep this "Hardy" species alive for longer than 5 weeks. In any of my tanks. All attempts to maintain them have failed. Miserabely. I'll no longer buy any (not least because now I have aan aggressive tank)because I still love them. The heartbreak & waste is just TOO much to bear.
Sadly so, such a beautiful little fish.. Matthew |

I'm in love with this fish. Unfortunately, the one I got a few weeks ago got sucked up in my maxi-jet while in QT. I'm not sure if he died first or just got to close to the intake of the pump. My fault as I forgot to put the guard on the intake. Will surely be getting another one sometime soon.

I just wanted to thank you guys for taking your time to write these! This is really a great writeup from one of the best e-zines out there. Great fish too!

I know its not a royal gramma, but probably my favorite gramma has to be the blackcap basslet. It took me three tries to get one over here (in Seattle) alive. None of my LFS carried one. Once this guy got settled in my old FOWLR tank he was like a bandit in the night. Zinging in and out of the holes in the LR to snatch food from the water column. He was in there with some big boys (Purple Tang and a Blue Throat Trigger). When I decided to make a tank transition and moved out my tang, trigger and flame angel, this dude got a serious Boss complex. Started taking over the tank! Sadly he perished on Christmas day when I captured him and held him in a fish trap container in the DT. He was brutalizing a fathead anthias! He still is one of my top five fish, but other secretive fish, who hang in the LR he just did not tolerate.
