Arrow Just In: Reef Octopus Diablo DC Water Pumps

NEW!

We've got more Reef Octopus DC Water Pump options now for you control freaks out there. The DC-3500 has a flow rate of 925 GPH, while the DC-5500 produces an impressive 1450 GPH. We've also got the big bad 2,275 GPH DC-10500 in stock.

What's so great about DC pumps? You can control the rotational speed of the motor, thus electronically control water flow rates. DC pumps are also more efficient than AC pumps and produce less heat per volume of flow.

The DC-3500 is the only model not suitable for external use.

The DC-3500 must be submersed; the DC-5500 and DC-10500 can be run externally. We apologize if we weren't clear the first time.

Just spoke with Reef Octopus directly and the reason is the configuration of the cooling chamber is different on the 3500 model which makes it not suitable for external use.

The newer version of these seems to be white and I now do not see the limitation on these being internal only. True the white 3500 can be external ?

According to CoralVue's website, the new RODC 3500 can be use internal or external:

Reef Octopus RODC 3500

At a mere 30W at max. power, it should make a great return pump for many applications.

I know this was asked above but can the RODC 3500 be used with the 10v control of an apex? I am open to modifying the cable if needed to manually connect the two.

Hi gotfrogs,

Thanks for your inquiry. Unfortunately, RODC pumps (as well as just about all other DC pumps) do not have a dedicated 'controller' port so it cannot be connected to the 0-10V VDM.

There have been a few people here on the forums that have DIY'd their own cables to make it work. However, there is no official product available from Neptune at this time. However, I'm sure they are working on it.
