not the case in my example. because when pump is turned off, some air gets sucked in from the overflow and comes out the pump input (through the elbow). So now, there is air trapped inside the elbow again and starting the pump gets the same air lock problem. I am only guessing Convict Tangs connection is causing air to be trapped in the pump, hence causing the problem. |

Yes, I looked at the picture and mine is exactly the same. It really makes no difference that the pump is external as long as the inflow is under the water level and the air can freely escape via the outflow. My experience with the pump is that even when it shuts down when running dry, the wattage is not zero.

ok, I think the mention of priming threw me off. I agree priming has nothing to do with it.
ER01 means abnormal working current. The controller (any DC pump for that matter) has overcurrent protection. It may be the tolerance of the current sensing resistor is off. I'd say try a different controller. try in the following order: get a replacement (controller, or better, the entire package) under warranty from the vendor, or borrow a controller from someone to test, or get another controller ($20 on amazon). If bought from amazon, vendor is probably cnz lighting. They should take care of warranty for you. I'd still say test the pump in a bucket of water to see if you get ER01. Just put two DCP-18000 on my system. Was a little cumbersome to install, had to think a little with the fittings it come with however both are at 45% and are quite as a mouse. So far I really am liking them and to be able to turn them up when needed and feed anything I could ever attach to my system is really nice.

I've had this pump (18000) running for about 6 months now and I'd say it's the best pump I've ever had Chinese, cheap or not. You can't hear it or tell it is running unless you put your head next to it. I don't understand how but it doesn't even so much as get warm to the touch. I currently have it pushing from my 150 gallon basement sump up 11 feet and over to my 65 display at 80 watts of 130 available. I just got the Red Sea Reefer 450 and want to T off from the 65 and run the 450 inline. I feel pretty confident that it could handle it but am not sure. all three rises equal 16 feet. Overall height from the pump to highest point would be 11 feet. There is approximately 30 feet of horizontal pipe and 5 elbows, 3 45's. All 3/4" PVC. Pump is rated at Max Head: 30ft. From what I have explained, would it technically be possible? The different calculators I've found online have not settled my concern so was hoping a thread of those experienced with the pump may be able to shed some light. Thanks in advance for your time and response!

The Jebao DCP has shown to be the most reliable so far, released in 2017. Looks like they’ve just released the Jebao DCQ recently as the latest generation pump with wave modes for closed loop applications.

So try to calculate your head loss (basically vertical height from pumping place to the highest point its being pumped to plus a bit of fudge factor to account for elbows/restriction) then look at the flow chart for the pump and find the one that works.. Being that these are controllable I actually recommend shooting for one that can do twice the needed flow as you can then run it at 50% which will typically extend its life.

For reference, I use a Jebao DCT-15,000 on my 300DD. It has been running for 2 years though I did have one small issue... the pump stopped about a year ago but once I gave it a clean and vinegar soak it was fine. I've tried to give it a scrub every 4-5 months otherwise. It's about that time again...
Whatever you get, it's a good idea to get a backup as well. Since these are popularly priced, it becomes more feasible to do that. edit: Wow, the DCP version is $100 more than the DCT version. Not sure how it could really be worth that much extra. If it's because it's quieter, then I'll keep the DCT which is very quiet already. Last edited by McPuff; 10/17/2018 at 07:48 AM. |

Does anyone have the flow charts for the 15000-20000 Jebao DCP pumps. I'm setting up a 180 gallon, with basement sump, and want at last 4-5x turnover.
Head height will be around 9' or so. |

I have a question... What kind of glue is everyone using to hard plumb these into PVC? Just regular PVC glue? Or a transition cement? I'm wondering if these fittings on the pump side are ABS.
And... How annoying is it that the DCP 10000 only comes with 1.25" plumbing at the largest..... It would be 100% better at 1.5".

Transition would be fine too if you have it but likely not needed at all..

The controller of my DCP 10000 just locked up at 100%. It won't do feed mode and can't be dialed down. I already tried holding the up/+ or down/- button until the display blinks twice, but it's still locked.
Has anyone an idea how to fix this?

Well, gave it another try and found that they must have changed something since putting out the manual.
Now it is the pause (feed) button: holding it until the display blinks twice locks the controller, holding it until it blinks three times unlocks it. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

What one would you recommend for a 29g. I was thinking the DCP-3500 or the DCP-5000. Will abe about 4ft to the top of the tank with 2 or 3 elbows.

since they are adjustable using the controller, i'd go with the biggest that will comfortably fit your plumbing and sump......then turn it down
