No new fish
No new coral But some new photos. Slowly the sps are regaining color and are starting to grow again. The greens, the color that suffered the most, are turning a little better too. Until the end of 2017 I was doing monthly FTSs but from now on, I'll be doing it bimonthly just to register the evolution of the tank. I think the tank needs no less than 2 months to start to look like it was before the problems with nutrients/Ra. I'm now keeping a very little portion of chaeto, of the size of a tenis ball. And I'll harvest it more frequently to let the nutrients level of the tank rises again. To help with it I'm feeding the fishes with fresh food again, heavilly, and I'm dosing a lot of stuff, with a positive response (Koralcolor, Aquavittro Fuel, Borochrom, Ferrion, Lugol's ,Potassion) Alex

good to hear things are turning to the bright side again. Lovely pictures. I am interested in your dosing schedule for all the elements you are adding (Koralcolor, Aquavittro Fuel, Borochrom, Ferrion, Lugol's ,Potassion) Would you mind sharing? |

My dosing schedule right now is: Koralcolor - 10ml/day Aquavittro Fuel - 30ml/day Borochrom - 30ml/day Ferrion - 30ml/day Lugol's - 5 drops every other day Potassion - as needed, to keep the level around 430ppm But this isn't reference for nothing and no one... My tank is getting out from as very very depleted water condition state and even myself, intend to keep this schedule for more 1 or 2 weeks and then, reduce it. The bigger problem of dosing micro/trace elements, Iron, Boron, Iodo, aminos, vitamins and things like that, is the lack, or even the inexistence, of reliable test kits. So you have to do it based only in your personal experience and the knowledge that you have of your own system. To try to do the same dosing schedule in a diferent system could lead to some MAJOR problems... Best Regards. Alex

I was just interested in the quantities and frequency. i have no intention to copy anything. And yes, I was also interested in your testing method, but as you say, trace elements are difficult to check and mostly rely on an experienced eye. I have some trouble with that (I am only very short in the sps business) and like to know what changes do you notice when trace elements are depleted or are in abundance? |

Don't do that in home, kids! I think the kind of water testing made by Triton is just great. It provides some good and accurate information, but it's not available here in Brazil. So, I'm forced to guess what's going on. The most visible sign that my tank was depleated was the pale colors....some sps, like setosa and vermiculata almost turned to white... But this isn't not a rule and it's something hard to define. Regards

I am amazed by your scape. That is very extraordinairy.
Also I notice you have very few fish. Some might be hiding, but it seems so. For 1500L these fish can not produce enough NO3 for sure and can also explain the pale colours. |

You're right....I have very few fish and I intend to keep it that way.
But some are hiding due to the change that I've made in the lighting, trying (and failing miserably ) to get more accurate colors in the video.

The main problem is that for photos, I adjust the WB on my Canon reflex cam in the Custom Mode. That gives me colors very very close to real ones, that I see in the reef. No need to correct color in the photoshop, wich I use to correct Exposition, Contrast/Brigtness, etc. In the other hand, the cam that I used for the video is a Xiaomi 4K (Something like a Go Pro) and the WB adjusts didn't have a Custom mode. So I've tried to change the Setup of my fixtures to avoid the blueish color in video. Turning the blues down gave the videos a less blueish look, but the colors looked washed away... I've tried several adjusts, but none gave me the fidelity that I've got with the Canon. I've tried several celphones (Asus, Motorola, Sansumg, Iphone ) and none gave me good results too.... Next thing to try is an ambar gel film ....

Love the video, Flow.
I just love the open spaces. Such great dimensions in your tank. Beautiful balance. And JJ is the perfect soundtrack.

I never saw any of my systems as a sps systems or even a sps dominat systems.
Of course that I've got a lot of sticks but one of my goals with this system was to acomplish a diversity of animals that I have got with the last ones. Maybe more. I've always found this blue tuxedo urchin interesting and now the opotunity of get one, big and healthy, shows up. I'm just a little worried about the longevity that it'll have so if you have some experience, please share. Alex

I have a pincushion urchin in my 40 gallon that eats coralline algae. It must eat other algae too, all I know is that where it goes the rock is scraped completely clean. You can clearly see the path it has taken on the rocks throughout the day. I've had this urchin for at least 2 years.
I believe that's a tuxedo urchin. I think the behavior is similar to pincushions. Pretty sure it will have plenty to eat in your tank if my 40 gallon can sustain one for 2+ years!
