Return pipe size for RSR 525XL

I’ve been going back and forth over the last few days as I design the return hard plumbing for my shiny new Red Sea Reefer 525XL. As I’ve translated, the 525xL has a return down pipe of 1”. I have a new Reef Octopus VarioS-8 on the way as my pump. I intend to tee a manifold off the return to run plenty of gear. I also have a 1” Flow Monitor probe for my Apex on the way too that I intended to plumb in-line either before or after the manifold tee (thoughts on which I should do?).

Two options for plumbing as I see it: 1) I run 1.25” from the pump all the way to the down pipe and then reduce to 1” as close to the down pipe. 2) I reduce from 1.25” off the VarioS and run 1” the remainder of the run.

I’m not smart enough to know the bennies I’d either option. Help a noob!

I hate flow meters with DC pumps as they severely restrict flow.

With DC pumps keep your pvc diameter as large as possible for as long as possible.

Don't use T,s only Y,s and no 90's use flex pipe if needed.

gatevalves uses a size up and use bushings so it wont restrict flow.

No barbed fittings either in main return line
