Couldn't find a 555 timer.....did find a 955 timer and was gonna give it a try anyways.
Fiance went with me and when she saw me with a hand full of tiny things and the project box she finally inquired. Let's just say that a 6091 has been ordered. |

I don't know I bought all correct parts or not.
Just wonder that why XTM's 1K£[ resistor is so large? (Larger than (R2) 20K£[ resistor) |

This is really really cool but I don't think it would work on a 25"x21"x16" tank maybe someday if I get a larger tank i'd do this

my tank is 48" but shallow and I use a 6055 I get a 1" wave, but with a 90 being deeper I would use atleast a 6100/01 a 6200 if you can get one as that is what the original wavebox pump is as I understand it.

i know it has been asked at least once...maybe more...but is there any concers about this placing undue stress on tank seams &/or stand load bearings????
i am in the process of doing custom-built tank of about 50-60 gallons & would like to do one of these...not sure if i want to use the wavebox or do it w/out

could you set a grate in the box above the tunze and place media bags in it to run cleansed water in the tank, it would not be hard to build and i think the water will still fill in the box at the right amount.

controller trouble shooting
Awesome thread and a great project to build.
I just finished building this controller. I can vary the run time of the pump, but the off time is always 20 seconds? Anyone know what the problem could be? Also, what wattage led are you guys using? I will post pictures when it is finished.....again. thanks |

I don't think I would personally put a wave box on a 50 gallon tank, too small. I would, however, put a pump or two on a time and run them that way. |

LED flashing and 20 second delay solved. had a 1OHM instead of a 10K resistor. Bought it in indivual resistor bin. store had the bin mislabeled.

Maybe someone can help me. I'm thinking of using a Tunze 6301 (7925 GPH) on a DIY wavebox. I realize that I should increase the size of the box because more water will be output. My tank is 9 ft long and 420 Gal. Does the frequency of the waves decrease as the tank gets longer ? I ask because the diameter of the hole to allow water back in is the same as a Tunze 6201 (5283 GPH) so it would need a longer time between waves to allow the box to refill. Am I correct and does anyone know the answer? Or has anyone used a standard wavebox on a large tank ?

Riverman, you are correct. The time the wave takes to get back to the starting side of the wave will be longer with a longer tank. I have heard that 8' tanks take about 2 seconds for the wave to return.

So if it takes 2 seconds between waves maybe I don't need the faster (6301) pump but just need a larger box to move more water in a larger tank, does this make sense ?
