why is only some of the silicone turning yellow in my fuge/sump?

There are only like two spots of silicone that are turning yellow, why is that?

They do happen to be the areas where water tends to whip around more. But it's still not consistent.

It's really weird because it is only on a little bit of the silicone. Seems to be around the really high flow areas of my fuge/sump.

That is algae. It happened in my refuge also. The algae seems to grow into the silicone.

The first picture is strange because the algae is above the water line. I suppose the algae touching the surface hydrated the rest like a wick?

Yeah that is my first baffle where the water comes down from my drain and whips around hitting that corner first.

It is odd that it is out of water, but it is always at least damp I'm sure.

yellow algae, is this common?

It is possible that the silicone is being stained by something in the water such as a medication, iodine, microbial growth or ??? Silicone is known to do that. The pink at the top in the first pic is prolly some anaerobic bacteria growing in the silicone. The silicone in my sump has some of the same spots.

The silicone manuf. puts growth inhibitor into select brands of silicone to prevent that very staining around your bathtub.
