i was thumbing through old pics from last april... i no longer have any of these, except these first ones, the bam bams... the rest i got rid of about 10 months ago, or lost along the way...
here are my orange bam bams which are now quite larger of a colony... here are some whammin watermelons (or eagle eyes, i can never tell with these 2)... some poison ivy's i eventually lost... some candy apple pinks... this is where i stopped fragging my zoas... i fragged them... the colony never regained its color or shape, and jus never looked the same after that... i have not fragged zoas since, and will never again, frag my zoas... some Armor of Gods that ended up covering 7 tiles before i got rid of them a month or so, after this pic... and this one was also given another month or two where it covered more than 5 tiles.. radioactive dragon eyes, with some sunflower mixed in... and my old fire and ice colony... this is another i want to add again... along with triple reds... nice to look back... looking forward to getting more into zoas and paly's again...

Why don't you like them? I've always though that they were pretty darn nice.

a new pic of my newest addition... captain america paly... a pretty large and fat polyp... currently opening up now and in this pic... the left side is folded over the right side at the moment, but it seems to be getting comfy slowly but surely...

I just got a nice colony of Capts from a friend that broke down a tank. Initially I didn't like them and wasn't planning on getting any. Once I got them under my AIs they turned out just awesome. Wait until that guy grows out, they're pretty cool.

and not the best pic, and i had to move it back out of the direct flow of the mp40s... 24 hours later, and it seems to be much more relaxed and comfortable... you cant see the color in the pic, but it is actually quite nice for a captain america... i dig it

and an okay at best, pic of my clementines... its hard to get a good shot of anything that is not 6" from the front glass (still using the phone camera)... this one sits about 10 to 11" back... the fourth polyp to the middle right is new since ive gotten it, and there are two more forming to the left side/back... they are still small, and have some plumping up to do, and their color and shape are a bit outta wack, but so far, the growth is a good sign... a few months, they should be a nice small colony that is off and running... *fingers crossed*

and some more polyp pics for the day... but first, all these pics from today were taken with only 4 bulbs on (except the chalice pic)... 2 blue plus, 1 aquablue special, and one purple plus...
my new bulb configuration is as follows... blue plus true actinic blue plus purple plus aquablue special blue plus true actinic blue plus im pretty happy with it right now... i would not normally use the true actinics and i had a 2nd aquablue special recently (used to use 3), but decided to go back to some true actinic bulbs to see if i liked any difference... but anyhow, back to the pics, which more didnt even have the actinics on, lol... and are whitewashed quite a bit, sorta speak...

Are you "feeding" your zoanthids/palys with something particular ?
They seem to grow quickly

I would also like to note here, that as of today (or whenever it gets here i should say) i am trying Red Sea Pro Coral salt... i will no longer be using regular Instant Ocean...
this salt will slowly be worked in as i will keep my current water change regiment at 4.5 gallons per week... i did miss this week as i used the last of the fresh IO water in my rock curing effort, so next week, when i get the salt, the first water change will be 9 gallons... which is 10% of my total water volume at this time... i am interested to see if there are anything i feel improved in any way, either livestock or water quality wise, in a few months down the road... but anyhow, my current dosing regiment... it used to be alot higher usage, but i have less than half the sps i had 6 months ago... and less water volume as well, about 50g's less than before my "upgrade"... ***** 1 drop of lugols daily 5 drops of elos amino acids 7 mL of BRS calcium 6 mL of BRS alkalinity 5 mL of BRS magnesium

so im kinda bored, lol, and since i removed some of my sps tonite, i figured i would make a quick stocklist... i also put a couple more zoas, and even the miami hurricane chalice on larger 6x6" tiles...
i now have only 9 sps mounted on my columns... all acros... ora cali blue tort tyree pink lemonade atl limeade ora red planet ora pearlberry green slimer purple lokani icefire echinata strawberry shortcake i also have a couple nice ora joe the coral and green highlighter small colonies, on my frag rack, i fragged off the larger colonies i had previously grown out... these will be my first "2nd generation" peices sorta speak, that i will grow... the following are my zoas and paly's... the first group are all growing and doing very well, regardless of number of polyps, whether there is only 1, or over 250... rastas red hornets purple hornets orange bam bams candy apple reds my clementines purple people eaters red people eaters rose nebulas tubbs blues sunny d's captain america the following are still coloring and/or shaping up, and coming along, but in my opinion, they jus are not to their potential... xmen pink elephants darth mauls whammin watermelons and i also have the two chalices... miami hurricane and a tyree red watermelon... with my downsized yet again sps collection, i now have 6 free spots amongst my 33 designated platforms... they will be used for a couple more zoas, couple more chalices, and a couple favias as i would like to give them a shot too... im pretty excited to have some more room... i went from over 30 sps peices, to less than 10, and im actually quite pleased about that decision... i think the ones i chose to keep, are quite nice, and starting over with a few, will allow them to grow out nice again i think... going with more zoas and a couple more encrusting lps is gonna take a little time to fill out, but its gonna look real good i think, and with good balance... also, now with less sps, i am gonna drop my daily dosing of two part to about 5 mLs for alk, and test daily, and pin point my usage after a couple more weeks before i hook up my dosers... i wana know how much im using when things settle down, before i start an automated dosing system...

as far as the sickest zoa collection, its with our friend in this link... this is my inspiration mixed with my own method of display... http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...896006&page=15 i have a deep blue shallow breeder style 80 gallon display... its 48" x 24" x 17" tall... i want a bigger display all around... 66" x 28" x 20" is my goal... im not gonna upgrade until i can afford that unless something jus falls in my lap sorta speak... anyhow, i use 2 mp40's... mounted on the back wall and evenly spaced, about 4" from the water surface... alot of flow in my tank, not all zoas/palys do well... some cant handle it and melt, or are passed along to someone with better conditions for them... i'll be adding a few more zoa types soon would really like some miami vice to name one...

Thank for the response. Your zoa collection is amazing. Your friend has some sick stuff too. BTW, how many hours do you keep your lights on? What bulbs do you use?
