plumbing question for external return pump

setting up a new sump for my existing tank. Going with an an Iwaki MD 55 rlt which has 1" inlet/outlet. Any reason to use 1.5" for the inlet side? And should I hard plumb the inlet with PVC or does there need to be some tubing or flex PVC on the inlet side? Thanks

Any time you increase tubing size you will reduce head losses. 1.5" on the intake of a iwaki 55 is a bit overkill. I would use flex pvc on both the intake and output of the pump to reduce any noise or vibrations.

definitely flex tubing, absorbs shocks, reduces noise transfer, reduces overall strain on the plumbing.
