That is a great idea

Looking good so far. The AC's are good little filters. I had two 110's on a 20L. They really push the water. Any new pics?

Aquaclears are great filters, especially since you can modify them.
I will probably post pictures today but nothing has really changed. Just going through my cycle.

Your rock arch looks great! Did you use any epoxy or plastic dowels or are they just locked together well. I'm starting a new nano and I'm hoping for an arch.

I am running a smaller overflow and i dont think it will fit inside of it. I dont have any experience with this set up. Would this set up work just attached to the tank rim? while incorperating an overflow.

No it won't unfortunately.
The switch needs to be in the overflow because this is the only place where the water level changes.

Red face

Cycle is almost over. Decided to do a DIY led fixture.
I'll save a lot more money and have results same, if not better.

No update really. Just going through a diatom bloom, about to get a snail only CUC.
Just waiting till diatoms thicken up a bit.
Once thats done, I'll put in my first fish. I cant wait for that.
Still planning my DIY LED kit. I have a bunch of ideas, just need to put it together.

I would use the search bar my friend.
I would also not recommend you getting a 10 gallon aquarium unless you have a few years experience. Taking care of a 10 gallon tank is not for the novice.
If I were you I would start off with a at least a 40 gallon first.

There are plenty of threads and videos on youtube to show you how to setup a tank, how to mix salt and the equipment you need.
Look up Mr. Saltwater tank and newyorksteelo on youtube. They have plenty of educational videos on reef aquariums.

+1 nano's and pico's are best left to the experienced or at the very least someone who has done countless hours of research. From your questions, it seems that you've not done very much, if any at all. I recommend if you are dead set on not starting with at least a 40gallon and you are determined to set up a nano like a 10gal, you research and you and when you are done, some more. Please be well read on the subject, go to the nano section on this site, read through people's builds and learn, learn, learn...

I made the mistake of making my first saltwater tank a 10 gallon tank and although it did survive, it never thrived. Upgraded to a 24G all in one and the extra 14 gallons of water was an amazing change. Definitely recommend a larger tank for a beginner!

Update!!!

Sorry for late update guys. I've been busy.

I added a Black Ocellaris Clown on the 12th of July. My diatom bloom has almost died off. Just a bit left with no CUC. Don't want to add CUC until i know there is enough food in the tank, since my rocks and sand are dry.
I added 2 pieces of live rock to seed the sand bed and already see signs of worms in the sand bed. Also a huge bristle worm is in the rocks. Does't seem to be any of the problematic ones.
I added a small ball of cheato in the AC70 and it's tumbling very nicely in the chamber.
Still haven't gotten a light yet. Just using flood light for diatom bloom for now.

Overflow Review.

Pros: Skims the surface like it was intended. I haven't seen any surface gunk at all.
Oxygenates the water

Cons: I have to top off 2 times a day which I don't mind.
Planing on get a ATO soon.

Parameters:
PH: 8.0-8.2
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 15ppm
Salinity: 1.025

I will post pictures soon.

I like the tank. I am currently doing a similar set up now with a standard 10 gallon in my office. I really like the custom overflow setup to hide the intake for the filter/fuge.

In regards to what others have said about starting out with a larger tank, this is true in the sense that it gives beginners a buffer zone in case of problems. I however disagree that this is a hard rule. Judging from how you set up the tank in terms of the DIY, you are well informed and have proven that you know how to navigate and learn from these forums. Make sure you stick to your water change schedules and not overstock the tank and you should be able to keep a happy 10 gallon ecosystem. The problem I found is overstocking in a small system. You may find you will want to upgrade your system sooner than if you had a 40 gal, but everything is a learning process. Many keepers of nano tanks find the task easier because they are keeping larger reef tanks as well.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted with pictures.

Update

Update!

Sorry I haven't posted any updates lately guys but here's the latest.
I just received my JBJ ATO and AquaLifter pump, but the switch bracket is too big to fit in the overflow. So I custom made one from acrylic
I love DIYs!

It's going to be held with a magnet on the little tab I left on the bottom of the bracket.

I would also be careful with using a magnet because most top off units advise against having those close to the float since they can effect the way it floats. Im guessing there might be some sort of metal and/or magnetic parts that would not let it freely float if acted on by a magnet.
