Yeah the over-night soak in vinegar will really help shorten the time cooking. This way you are dissolving a lot of the bound up waste, rather than processing it.

Well guys..... The money ran out so I had to downsize. Do you think this would be considered over-skimming?

J/K!!! I have some more updates coming shortly. Just thought this looked awfully funny.

If I could just keep them from getting sucked up against the pump intakes

OK, back to the build thread... Sorry for the temporary side-track

Just lose the 20 gallon, put the fish and corals in the skimmer.

Excellent build & attention to detail thus far! Can't wait to see this monster running.

Do you plan to use all marco rocks? Are you just placing them or planning to attche via acrylic rod or other means?

Thanks 110g! I plan on at least 90% of it being Marco rocks. I'm wanting to use mostly base rock because it's free of any hitchhikers and other unwanted pests. I've dealt with hydroids forever and don't want to see another one as long as I'm a reefer. I'll do the Hop trick and cook/seed it for a few weeks with a piece or two of carefully selected live rock.

It will be a relatively minimal aquascape as far as the rocks go with lots of open swimming space. I don't really care for the rock tower look, I tend to gravitate towards the mini island scape myself. I plan on having a fair size remote refugium that will utilize a DSB and have plenty of live rock. I want the display to be a 'display' and house all the other bio filtration elsewhere.

Sounds very similiar to my upcoming setup. as far as your fuge, what size you planning it to be?

I planned a fuge as well, but was thinking simply just housing cheto to harvest some nutrients?

Haven't totally decided the size of it yet. I will have my 40g leftover from my current reef, but it would need a lot of work to get it ready. I might do a 50 breeder or similar. I was planning on mostly live rock and chaeto, along with a DSB as well. I keep a bit of halimeda in my 40g so I might throw a bit of that in there. It's an attractive macro. I've had good luck with the DSB in my 40g but just don't want it in the display anymore. I'm envisioning the fuge to be a 'display' of it's own in a sense.

UPDATE:

I finished the trim work on the inside of the sump room last night. I used some vinyl and pvc trim to detail the opening, like a window would be framed. My goal was to "seal" any exposed framing and the ends of cut drywall. I didn't want any bare wall to be exposed to moisture above the tank. Here's how I did it...

First I picked up some various sized of vinyl/pvc trim. It's readily available at your local home center. Typically it is used on the exterior trim of homes. It holds up very well when exposed to weather and will not rot, decay, or warp like traditional wood. Ive used it in other areas of the house but thought this would be a good application for it. I love working with it because it won't splinter or split and it cuts like butter. And, it comes in a variety of sizes as normal hardwood stock does.

These pieces had already been cut to size.

I used Rustoleum Plastic paint to paint it black.

Cut everything to size and gave it a shot of paint.

I used the PL Premium Construction Adhesive to attach them to the wall so I wouldn't have nail holes to fill. Then put a bead of black silicone caulk in the joints between the boards.

Everything is so clean and pristine looking. You must not have little ones around messing things up.

Again looking quite awesome Drummer.

Thanks 110galreef! Yeah, I always kinda go a bit overboard when doing stuff I guess. I figured if it was a comfortable room to hang out in I'd be more apt to keep up on my tank maintenance.

Thanks again gradth. Well, not yet anyways on the little ones. Someday probably. That's why I'm putting a door in the back of the room.
